If we have our own SPOT device, can it be used for the TD?  I would believe that ESN number can be added to whatever is used for the TD website.....

Normally the answer to this question is 'No, SPOTs must all be on the same account to be viewable on the same map', however, Scott Morris from Trackleaders.com has some crack code that makes this merge possible. You will be provided a link soon that will walk you thru the private SPOT info submission process.

Ok another question, I see that last year there was a major detour due to fire danger, how and when was that decided? Were racers notified somehow while on course, and how to know what the course change will be, ie if one does not have maps, only a GPS track, how to find and confirm they are on the proper reroute? I am also still a bit confused as to the "official alternates" in New Mexico and as to when there are appropriate to use, seems they are always used? I do need to get the new GPS track and do some comparing to get my head around it, but I lack the skills and technology to be honest. Any info is much appreciated as always, thanks to all for sharing so much, Jefe

So I'm guessing we get these trackers the morning of?  Is there anyway I could figure out what the ESN is before I show up?  I like to output my tracker into google earth so people can get in on the 3D globe action, namely my Dad.

Last year it was handled through mtbcast and it was a 1-800 number to call in and also to notify the riders, I'm pretty sure Joe "mtbcast" well be doing the same this year

I am looking for a good TD pillow, probably air. I am a side sleeper and I need to raise my head. I have tried stuffing clothes etc. in a bag, and I tried my down jacket. Any suggestions?

AW starters THIS year: We have an offline e-mail discussion on deciding our starting time, if/where to meet prior to the start in AW  (it's not as obvious or convenient as Banff), who has room in a car.  Everybody on Matthew's list for AW at the moment has been getting the e-mails (tourdivide.org). If you didn't (AND you are starting in AW on June 10 this year), you can contact me or anybody else on the start list.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bag-In-Box#Wine_cask

Take one night to remember ( or forget ), remove bag, deflate and inflate bag to desired squishyness...

you may wish to try various volumes to get the thickness vs squishy factor right.  Goon bags tend to come in 2L and 4L varieties here (1Gal 1/2 Gal?)  but other sizes can be sourced.

Cost: approx $10
Weight: Light! a couple of oz's at best
Value: Questionable.  Depends on how much of the contents you drank before trying to use it as a pillow.

Can be dual purposed as a water bladder, but depends on brand and "nozzle" implimentation/design.

Cheers
Craig

Well Weight Watchers....since our last meeting I have lost 3 pounds! (golf clap) I am now down to 44 pounds skin out (everything). I'm feeling a tad better. There is maybe one more easy pound and after that it gets tougher. Smiley

This pillow is good. It hardly adds anything to the weight of your bedroom (ie sleep system) and is a welcome luxury after a long day.

I am an avid side sleeper too and I can never sleep on my back at home. That being said, I have found that after a super hard day riding you just get so tired that you will pass out anywhere. I just did a 100 mile snow bike race where the temp got down to -16 at night (not including windchill) and after 18 hours of straight gunning, I was whooped. I actually fell asleep on the trail standing up while leaning on my bike and then again I slept at the next check point sitting upright in a chair for 1.5 hours.

Just my 2 cents but a pillow sure could end up being an extra few ounces that you haul for 2700 miles.

I havent used either one of these, but they seem to be the lightest pillows around:

Can someone recommend a place where I could buy pre-paid phone cards in Eureka? What is the most reliable brand? AT&T?
