jeff - did you use the sawyer inline filter and just suck from your bottles?
i love my kaytadan hiker pro - but it is bulky for sure!

I found that the intake nozzle of the Sawyer (without the supplied tubing) fit the nipple of my water bottles, so I marked one bottle "bad" and reserved it for questionable water. By squeezing the "bad water" bottle through the filter I was able to fill a bottle with filtered water pretty quickly, and then I could add nuun or drink mix or whatever to the filtered water. Bob |

About bad water...
I spoke to the Ranger in charge of the Gila Wilderness area today. The well at the campground on the re-route North of Silver City was abandoned shortly after it got drilled. The water from the well was not suitable for drinking.

On the Aquamira drops, the website recommends using them with a filter.....is that needed or do most just use the drops?

I used the sawyer in line with a camelbak. No problems at all. I used it for all water. You can't use drink mix though. |

I think I'm going to put that inline filter in and leave the Hiker Pro home. It takes up 3/4ths of my space in the bottom frame bag pocket. Now I can use that for more food!!

I used the bottles for "good" water and beverages and a camelback for the 'stream' and 'pond' water which I drank through a filter or drained into the bottles. Usually the camelbak was empty because I did not like the weight on my back. |

BigPoppa: Agreed. I have always run egg beaters, even the cheaper ones. Last year, I bought a new set and put just under 5,000 miles on them, before they needed to be rebuilt. The only problems I have had is breaking some of the wings on some trails, but that was my fault. |
