Lock the brakes, strap a short set of skis to the wheels, and the downhills will be amazing!  I actually have considered the feasibility of that kind of setup for pushing: slide instead of trying to turn wheels through snow.

I'd been considering it for the mud sections, the snow will just give me more practise before I reach the mud Cheesy

Hmm these will clash with my outfit  headbang

I definitely don't agree with the policy. I thought I was buying the latest set of maps to avoid the need for addenda.
I can understand the need to not write off stock where possible, but at least make that clear, or give a lower cost option for the old versions.
agreed

Just checked my "new" 6 and yep, it's different. I'm already confused, which is the correct route?
The correct routing is on side 1 with the CDT as an alternate. Since the route narratives (and route itself) are southbound, it was deemed unnecessary to endure the cost and printing time to change it. Again, the narrative is correct. The side 1 route is correct. The side 2 route line north of Silver City is incorrect.

There's still time to change your outfit. Those are awesome!

[Also, remember that it has to match your bike's color]

All of those jokes about carrying snowshoes to use on high passes for the first week ... having seen this and the piles of snow everywhere else, even in the town of Banff, I'd be inclined to take that advice a little more seriously.
I've been thinking the same thing. I think my skis will accompany me on the first few weekend trips i was looking to only ride (Lolo Pass just got 10in of heavy-dense snow 2 nights ago).

It's not just the snow ether. It's the runoff. Look in any paper around Western Montana and they are talking about probable record flooding in the next month. The Missoulian ran a story couple days ago which said one creek in the Sapphires (not on TD route) was measured at 295% of average snowpack.

I need to study the route maps and narratives in more detail, I asked a few pages ago about concerns of "stream" crossings being in full flood.

The water in the flathead reroute will probably be pretty high, and/or covered in snow.  The other stream crossing is between Steamboat and Kremmling.  I can't think of any more.

Washed out bridges will probably be a bigger pain.

There will not be any washed out bridges, people, unless there are major rains on top of snowpack. Get a hold of yourselves on all this gloom n' doom talk. Just go ride your bikes, for now. TD has scouts on the ground on every pass that might be a problem. We will be making very informed, experienced judgments about the appropriate route come 6/10. The only ford of concern is high up in the Flathead headwaters. The Flathead is currently projected to peak at the US border on 5/25. Assuming these projections remain true, that puts all the tribs on the southern aspect of Flathead Pass well past peak by the time TD challengers arrive--assuming TD does run the Flathead.

I'm not racing but I am curious about the alternate routes for the racers - is that legal? or do they have to stay on the main route? I've been map obsessed the last few days - got a set of the maps in the mail to plan a trip this summer Smiley

Don't be ridiculous!  It's in Montana that you really have to worry - that's Big Sky Country.

The Adventure Cycling Association sales department has a policy to sell out of old stock maps before the new ones hit the shelves. This is why you guys received older maps on Section 3 and/or 5. All of the updated service and routing data is in the addenda for those sections.
I'm sure everyone already has maps but FYI: the 2009 Section 3 & 5 maps are sold out. Which means all updated 2011 US GDMBR map sections are currently on the shelf and selling.
