Are there any recommendations for a hostel in Tucson? Google turned up the http://www.roadrunnerhostelinn.com and it looks good to me, but maybe there is a place where most riders check in. |

I know we have definitely talked tires before in this thread, but I wanted to cover it one more time before I decide on the perfect AZT tire. I recently purchased the Panaracer Rampages and they should be here in a few days. I'm curious what everyone thinks is the most "Bomb-proof" tire out there. I have been trying to research which tires have the thickest sidewalls, as that is my biggest concerns. Ever since I started running an actual UST tire I haven't had an issue with flats in over 2 years running tubeless. So what do you guys think is the toughest tubeless set of tires to run for the AZT. I'm definitely a huge believer in a little heavier tires if it means I don't have to worry about slicing my sidewall in the first rough section that shows some sharp rocks.

You may look at the Ardent 2.4 with EXO sidewalls, they have quite a good reputation. I rarely destroy tires so my personal experience doesn't count much in this, but I can confirm that the sidewalls are really beefy. I will use it as a front tire but mainly because of its volume.

I've read a ton of good reviews for the Rampages being a great front tire... any opinions on running a different rear or keep the Rampages together?

I really like the Rampages front and rear if it fits. Depends on the frame. A Saguaro would be a good choice for a faster rolling rear.

I've been rolling a Rampage on front for the last 2 years on all of AZ's terrain. Great tire... I know people that run them on the back but seems like a slow roller there. I've had good luck with the Michelin Wild Racer tires....inexpensive ($30), 700 grams, seal up tubeless well. I've worn 4 of them out and only put a minor cut in 1 (that stans actually sealed!). I'll be showin' up with that combo...

I've been thinking about going with a Saguaro on the rear, but have been hearing horror stories about the 29' TNT version being an absolute nightmare to get on/off running it tubeless. Anyone have any experience with such nightmares?

Yep I gave up on TNT impossible to get on with a tube.
And since nothing is guaranteed and you may have to put a tube in.
Rampages are a bit slower rolling but the added traction will make up for it at some point.
As long as the Rampage fits your frame I would go that route F&R.

Oh yeah you'll like them.
Considering there's only 20 some miles of pavement in 300 I don't think you'll miss the faster rolling tire.

a little off the tire topic, but anyone have any experience using hammocks on the azt 300 route? i know chad brought one as i just scanned through his gear in a previous trip, but am curious if there are plenty of places to use it. just thought i could pass on brining my small big agnes tent and sleeping pad if i had a hammock for the ITT i am planning. thanks guys!

Yes people have used hammocks on the 300. Are there a lot of places maybe not but there are certainly some.
As I recall one of Chad's pics was of him using a fence post as part of the setup.
The one area that might be tough would be north of Oracle.
Tho along the Gila you should have lots of trees to use.
It will limit your choices tho and you might well have to get creative.
