2012 AZTR/300 Discussion Thread

He is in last place and I couldn't be prouder of him! (he was on an LW Coaching training plan so I am super stoked!!!) I am so impressed with his tenacity. Scroll back in Mikes blog to find this is his first mtb race and he lost 30 lbs to do it! He is putting in a gutsy ride all the way.

Thanks for the thumbs up Lynda. Your training program is what got Mike to the AZT30000000. He couldn't have done it without your coaching, seriously!  He has prob lost a total of 40lbs by now!
I am anxiously waiting for the end of this race! As, we might have to re-establish the disappearing beer belly, I have a full cooler of Corona, Pabst, Silverback and an IPA, water, coke and burritos. Locked and loaded. I am leaving Tempe, when Mike hits the summit of the last peak (alamo?) If anyone happens to be around - it's happy hour, whatever hour it is!

Yeah!  It's great to see KC and Aleck return and finish strong after DNF'ing in previous years.  KC, I think, had the record for the earliest dropout @ Canelo Pass.  Good work fellas, finishing it up in heat!

Awesome race..and so much fun to watch the blue dots!!! I've been glued to my computer..  I was curious Mark Caminiti finished the 300 yesterday behind Tanner M and minutes ahead of Wendy L and Mark R.

No worries, it's a little confusing on the tracker between 300 and 750 racers.  On the software you're not considered a finisher until you make it to Utah -- since we want to keep tracking the 750 racers, and if they are "finished" the software won't track them anymore.

I will still include Mark and the other 750 racers as 300 finishers and rank them appropriately, however.  I'll post some prelim results here a little later, maybe when Mike B comes in!  (Go Mike!)

Just spoke with Jill as she pushes along on the 750.  She's in great spirits and having the ride of her life but her feet are swollen and in pain.  She's taking a break in Pine for the night then will be back at it tomorrow morning.  She says SHE WILL FINISH!!  Keep cheering for her and sending good vibes!

Is anyone still tired from the 300?  I've been eating about 15,000 calories a day since the race and sleeping around 14 hours a day.  I am starting to get antsy to get back on the bike already but I know I need around 3 more days of rest.

Diesel Marshal is in Payson. He had to sew up a pretty good sized tear in a tire and he was hoping it would hold up. I know he's also having trouble with his brakes too. He might be staying in town tonight to hit up a shop in the morning. Always different to watch a dot when you know the person it represents. I'm inspired by his ride.

Looks like she went off route north of Roosevelt lake, missed a turn it would appear
How does that play out in the end game for such a small detour (~6 miles)?
Especially in light of other navigational errors that added to her total miles by certainly more than 6 miles?

Thanks Scott, Just wanted to say that not only do you do an amazing job with the Tracking and site, you also do a great job responding so kindly to maniac girlfriends like me..who are clueless and full of the competitive spirit?..(armchair quarterback) i guess?

Spoke to him and Tammy - and they both sounded great.
Mike was sipping on a beer, and contemplating how he was going to sit down - comfortably.
They are off to get some real rest.
Congrats to Mike and all the other riders that were out there with him.  I am quite impressed by the perseverance and dedication and ...whatever it takes ...from of all of you.
And I enjoyed being entertained by watching the bubbles move for the past week - from my couch !

Oops somehow she missed the dirt road out to Rye Creek looks like she just stayed on the paved highway.
Not sure what Scott will say. She missed about 7.5 miles of the course that could easily be a DQ.

That would truly suck for her but I am not sure there is any way around it that would be fair to and within the rules. Not sure it matters that she missed turns that added up to 6 or more extra miles. That doesn't replace the fact that she missed the course and replaced dirt with pavement. Of course it's up to Scott. Perhaps is there was an earlier women's finisher he would give that person some input.

I guess she could just go back and pick it up. But from where she is that would be a pain. From Pine and Strawberry the pavement back to Payson is a busy highway not a tight as it used to be but no real shoulder that I remember. She could stay on course and do the Highline trail then drop back down on the back road to Payson. From there she can easily drop down the Beeline Highway to pick up what she missed. But man that's a lot to give up in terms of distance and elevation.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I thought Scott would post up last night but he likely went down early as he is still catching up on sleep of his own. No doubt he'll weigh in this morning.
