I've got some unfinished business out on the Divide and some demons to put rest. I'm in.

Hi Phil
Did you also send your LOI to the gmail account mentioned somewhere on the TD web site?
Or is this now the (un)official place for TD 2012 LOIs?

And the winter solstice - from when LOIs are accepted - is tomorrow (22nd) isn't it?

According to http://www.usno.navy.mil/USNO/astronomical-applications/data-services/earth-seasons the winter solstice is 22nd Dec, 2011, 5.30 (UTC = Coordinated Universal Time). This means 21 Dec, 2011, 22.30 MST (Mountain Standard Time, also called Tour-Divide-Time :-). If there are LOIs accepted or not or whatever ... finally it is essential if one will be at the start line or not. And the Jersey is on its way to be produced: tourdivide.deSo one should consider this a special kind of LOI:

I first learnt about the Tour Divide from a magazine article about 9 months ago. For someone whose childhood role model was the great Alf Tupper - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alf_Tupper , the attraction of this event is irresistible. Alf's main issue with the TD would have been the lack of proper fish and chip shops along the route! So I will be there in Banff on 8th June 2012 for the SOBO Grand Départ, hoping to live up to Alf's "hard as nails" standards. John Phillips Winchester, UK.

Reading through this forum and others, it sounds as though their are no more LOI's, so I'll add mine here as well.
So...I had the serendipitous fortune of getting to know a TD racer, became a Blue-Dot junkie, fell in love with the route, felt a growing desire to immerse myself in the experience, and now...MUST seize this opportunity. One of my favorite American Transcendentalist writers once penned, "Things are in the saddle and ride mankind." On June 8th, I shall cast off my things, hop on a saddle, and "Ride the Divide". Thanks beforehand to all who have created, and maintained the integrity of, such a beautiful adventure/quest. Thanks also for the best 'entry fee' I've ever encountered. SOOOO Stoked! =)))))))))

"Unfinished business". What more can one say.
Last week I lugged by TDR bike from D.C. where I shipped it last summer from Steamboat to my parents in Toronto. Got very nostalgic unpacking it after 6+ months, and then realized in 6- months I'd be back at it again. Can't wait ...
The only big change for 2012 will be my checking the weather (smoke to be more precise!) maps before deciding if I'm trying northbound again. Oh, and I'll have 10 days to recover from Ironman Brazil. But I've new asthma medication so I'm raring to go.

Christopher, there seem to be more Ironmen giving it a try ... my last IM (and first one) will be almost 4 years ago when starting in June 2012 ... anyway, I hope I've neither to swim nor to run that much during TD :-)

I'm envious... . I guess I have to go without this kind of ticket in 2013.

My wife just finally gave in after I kept hinting at it. At least her face doesn't turn red and steam come out her ears anymore when I talk about it. I think she is worried about me. I'll miss her and the kids for sure! She did make sure to let me know that I'd better make it as it was a ONE time thing.....
