I don't. But I carry a boot (basically a big sticker that Park Tools sells), carpet needle & thread, and Super Glue.

Wow, so is the needle, thread and glue for sewing a ripped tubeless tire, or for fixing thread bare carpet you might encounter?

I think some people carry a tire boot but I doubt many people would carry a spare tire.

Is long-term parking allowed at Waterton? If not, does anyone have suggestions for a suitable place to leave a vehicle for the duration of the race?

Long term is allowed. But rememeber this:

I left my crappy 2001 neon there in 2009 or 2012  and someone did the jam a screwdriver in my drivers side door handle just right open my door check to steal anything but nothing in there no cool stereo to steal dealio. It would have sucked if I left a real car there.

I have also left it there and nothing happened.

well, my ctr training schedule just got shortened-- broke my left arm in 4 places yesterday taking a fall on my road bike. 4-6 weeks of rest and ill be ok as long as I dont end up needing surgery. Sneezing is dangerous business on bumpy trails with a road bike! Oh well, could've been worse. If this had happened in july I'd be a lot more upset

Bummer. At least it was just an arm, not a leg. Maybe you can still maintain some core fitness on a trainer or someting?

I'm sorry to hear that. I'm in a similar situation, as I broke my jaw in Fruita a couple of weeks ago. It's hard to train with my mouth wired shut, but at least since I can't eat real food, I'm dropping to race weight pretty quickly.

So here is a question.  I have yet to do the section from Buena Vista to the start of Saguache (basically the nastiest of hike a bikes).  I'm assuming at my pace that it will take around 4 days from Buena to Silverton.  My question is, what kind of food is at Princeton Hot Springs?  Also, anyone know if they have any type of mail drop capabilites there?

Re: Princeton Hot Springs:  Only the tastiest of string cheese, Snickers bars, microwave burgers, and beef jerky... I remember just buying several single-serving yogurt cups there one year, mashing in unripened bananas and Fritos, and thinking it was the best thing I'd eaten in days.

There's also a sit-down restaurant.  I've always been afraid to venture in.  Seems like at Princeton I've always just been thunderstormed upon and am soaked, muddy, and not exactly restaurant material.

There is a store and a restaurant at Princeton. Also, note that when you hit highway 50, there is an RV park downhill only a mile or two with a store that is open until 7:00 pm. We hit the store last year and had TV dinners and ice cream. You can obviously camp there as well if the time is right.

The restaurant is good but SLOW. Even if u just say give me a cheeseburger pronto, they pull some lame fine dining crap and take forever to serve you. So allow for a slow kitchen they cant handle more than like 5-6 tables at a time. If you see the joint packed, expect an hour wait and a bunch of apologizing college kids.

Sorry for the reminder  to those who already know but reading the low tire pressure stuff sometimes makes me flinch.
Experimentation is great but finding the limit of front tire pressure is serious business. You will find the limit of front tire folding exactly at the moment you wish you were on the other side of it, i.e.. in the air at 30mph looking at a hard landing w/ a slight horizontal drift.
This is one limit you really need to sneak up on.

After shopping in BV [2012] and coming out with a huge pile of food, I didn't plan on buying anything at the Mt. Princeton store. However, I did stop in and probably had a 1000 calorie late breakfast there and bought another 2000 calories for the trail. The store had these awesome looking pecan-encrusted, caramel, chocolate treats which I bought and saved as my reward for getting up to Coney/Cataract. BTW, even after buying extra food at Princeton, I really didn't have enough food to make it to Silverton, but that's another story. I didn't check out the restaurant at Mt. Princeton, but I did take a shower at the hot springs bath house before I pedaled away. Mt. P is a great place to refuel and clean up, but don't let the tractor beam of luxury suck you down for too long.
Re: Campground on US-50, below Fooses
We stayed there this past fall, during our annual Salida area pilgrimage and I checked out the store. I wouldn't plan on finding much food selection and/or quality food there and their business hours can be erratic and not as posted. However, stopping there is your last chance to correct any poor planning decisions before committing to the Silverton push.

That is how I felt about Baily last time I was there.  Good lord that place was slow.  Good burger though.  Not so good an hour later climbing 285

Anyone guesstimate how long it takes the average ride to reach Silverton from BV?  For example, it took me 2.5 days to get from Seg 18 to Silverton.  Mind you, half a day of that was me hiding from a nasty storm on a ridge on 23.

Trackleaders is a good tool to estimate time.  I have also used another rule of thumb, however long it .took to get from Waterton to BV is about the same time it takes to go from BV to Silverton
