Epic hailstorm just passed through, and fast! Hubach is happy to not be in the burn area right now...although now he looks to be on 126 instead of the CT.

High Plains Tap House Saturday? [8176 S Wadsworth Blvd] Think I might drop by there Sat afternoon and have a late afternoon dinner and pint. I've been trying to put on an extra pound or two this week and this might help. Early, as in ~3:30-4:00PM [they open at 3PM]. Feel free to join me. I'll be driving a big, white Ford diesel van with NM plates. Joe, Stefan, if you two show up I have a present for you. Otherwise I'll hopefully see you two Sun morning.
-Barry
PS-I have to lap DIA to pick up my better half, who touches down at 6:00. If I didn't make the 3:30 rendezvous, will be back later with her in tow.

Edit: High Plains is just a couple miles away from the CT terminus in Waterton.

The gravel road is actually pretty nice. Not much traffic, nice views of the river, cool tunnels, etc. And, yes, that is the CTR route--which is not always the same as the guidebook. If you're racing, you must follow the course.
Agree that detour is the best detour of all the detours on the CT. Its a fast smooth road with a slight downhill slope in the Leadville->BV direction.  Don't forget to look for the elephant rock too.

Its also way better riding at night, that small section of road was a bit scary at 11pm last year. 550 at night would also be a little scary in this direction.

Hubach has put in a good showing for day 1...looks like he's pulled into the Spruce Grove campground, about 82 miles in.

I think this is his 3rd attempt, pulling for him to finish this one.

Edit: I suppose he could just be filling up on water too.

CTR14: ITT Karlos Bernart called in on his way to BV this morning. He’ll have to explain the scream!

Sounds like a plan! In Paducah, KY right now about to hit the hay. Hope to make a long day/push into Denver.

Sorry, but is this guy racing a true ITT or touring? He does distinctly say 'we' several times...

And indeed - he definitely needs to explain that scream, he hardly even misses a beat!

Looks like the Breck Epic starts Sunday. Racers will be on the CT around Breckenridge Monday and Tuesday. Prob when most CT Racers get to this area. It looks like they will be traveling in the same direction on the trail. Just to let you know...

Hi All,

I'm starting my ITT this morning about 8-ish from Waterton Canyon (friend is dropping me off on his way to work).  I registered with Trackleaders yesterday, so I should be visible at some point.

Good Luck to everyone!

My Ti MotoB all dressed up and ready to dance. Weight is about 38# [sans food/water]. 13-14# of gear* on the bike [3# of that from bags]. On my back, 6.7# [3.5# of gear in a 3.2# Talon pack]. Water: 3L max on the back and up to 1L on the bike. Up to 6# of food gets crammed any and everywhere.
For the CTR: pulled off the big ring and running 21[Ti]/32 rings with 11-36 cassette; installed the largest rear tire I trusted [2.4 Ardent Exo] which now allows me to run less air in the back than the front [21-23 psi]; front tire is 2.35 Nobby Nic SS, leftover from AZT300; laced an Exposure dynamo hub to Stan's Crest rim in the front and Arch in the rear.
Performance carbon bar, Ibis stem, generic Ti seatpost, Ritchey foam grips [lightweight and can be custom shaped with a Dremel], mostly XT bits with XTR shifters, Fizik Aliante Gamma something saddle.
Bags: Thanks to Greg Wheelwright for the lightweight seat bag, Dave Wilson did the double frame bag, Revelate for the bar/gerry/gas and two feedbags.
BTW - the fuzzy dice are weight-weenie approved, only 24g. Can't solely rely on Lacy Luck...
Edit: After about five minutes of test driving the whirligig, it drove me crazy and has since been removed. Yes, I run toe clips. BBG bash from Portland, OR. Elixir 9 brakes.
*TMI for this posting, but I do carry an uber-light Ti alcohol stove, gravity water filter system, 45-deg down bag, Klymit Ozone pad, ZPacks Solo Hex.

Hopefully the lucky dice stay with me. However, I did lose my tiger tail during the second day of the AZT-300. It's out there somewhere and a head was probably scratched...
