Someone else chime in re new maps this year.

Check: http://www.adventurecycling.org/routes-and-maps/adventure-cycling-route-network/map-addenda/default.cfm#results  for addenda, changes to routes.

Change to Canadian route near Elkford is at: https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?ll=50.007739,-114.88266&msa=0&spn=0.288608,0.528717&mid=zwdbczDNCLPA.k7UiBqiLSuBY

Other big change is from Basin to Butte MT - got rid of section paralleling I-15 (which was a hoot to ride, but noisy to sleep next to at night!). The ACA maps:  all the 6 U.S. maps were updated and reprinted in May 2014.

Cheers

I need to purchase TD maps. I thought that I had read somewhere that the Canadian section was do to be revised this year. Does anyone know this to be true? Would like to buy maps ASAP but don't want to have to but them twice.

A month or two ago, I wanted to order maps.  Called to see about the Canada map.  There will be a new printing in the first few months of 2015, but I can't remember when.  Scheduled available before June.  I'll try to remember to call Adventure Cycling again Monday or Tuesday and refresh the details.

Hey Bill, wife and I were blue dot stalking you last year. Nice ride!

I see you are getting the new Canada map - so are you in for this year? Hope to see you there, and we more 'mature' riders can put the shame on the young-uns!

Yes, Glen, I'll be showing up on the spreadsheet one of these days.  Plan to do a SoBo ITT, again, leaving a week before GD.  I believe in the Solo aspect of the race as much as the self-supported and don't want to ride in groups for that reason.  Last year, I did about 35 3/4 days and am shooting for under 30 this year.  Won't exactly be putting too many of the youngsters to shame at that pace. ;}

I spoke to AdventureCycling today re the Canada map.  The new version, dated 2014, is now for sale.  Also, when you choose the map in the store, it shows a publish date of 2014.
Now, all 7 of the TD maps are the latest, with minimal addenda info to be edited in.

Cool. This means the one I ordered the other day is the new one. I thought that the date had been updated Smiley

The start list is a bit different than last years.  Probably to prevent someone from deleting the whole thing which happened last year.  If your name doesn't appear in a few days there is an email address of someone on the "Welcome" tab of the Doc who probably can help you out.

Just received the complete set of ACA Great Divide maps including Canada, all 2014 editions. They even include a hard copy of the addendum for each map.  Very nice.

Friendly reminder that the google doc is not the official list but a collection of who will toe the line - One must send in their letter of intent by sending an email to tourdivide@gmail.com.  This will ensure you receive any info relative to the event and to register your SPOT device.  Info will not start to roll in until the grand depart date draws near.

I'll have to listen to the last couple minutes tonight but listened to most of the gag reel last night and it was hilarious. Thanks for putting this together Joe, and thanks for all you do over at mtbcast!

48 degrees F in Sparwood today. Wonder if that will keep up until June?  Cool webcam pic if you don't already know about it:

For Canada+Northern US current snowpack image: https://www.ccin.ca/home/ccw/snow/current

Looks to be a bit less than average snowpack, but a more than average blip in Montana. Come on global warming!  icon_biggrin

I'll drink to that.  I've been re-reading Paul Howard's book and shaking my head at his descriptions of 90 degree weather in the Flathead.  When I went through in 2012 we had 5 miles of snow on Flathead Pass and another few miles on Galton Pass along with rain, cold, etc.  Sounds like 2014 was even more horrid.  I'm hoping Divide racing years will follow the lead of Star Trek movies and every other one will be good.  Here's to a fantastic 2015!

What!  That would make it about 13 degrees warmer than when we rode thru there last June.  Forget the Grand Depart, I should be ITTing it right now.

FYI - The printed addenda sheets that went out for the first copies of the 2014 Canada map has a small error. The Fording river reroute is on Map B and not Map A. They've corrected it on their website as of a couple of days ago. I'll assume that going forward, any of the addenda sheets will have this correction.

Just ran across an appropriate Mark Twain quote:

Which falls in line with Twain's other one-

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
