Hi All,

If you are running a dynamo and have been looking for a good gas tank bag that will take your cables, check out Alpkit. I asked them to provide me a bag where I could feed the cables through and they sent me the perfect one for bikepacking. They also produce a dry bag which is tapered to fit in your seat bag. Highly recommended.

If you do order the gas tank bag be sure to ask for the dynamo opening. I'm not sure if it's a standard feature.

Question for all you guy bib riders:  When you pee, do you have take the suspenders off your shoulders for "access"?  I'm thinking of switching but just wondering how they work in this regard.

I have both regular bibs and thermal knickers. They are both Specialized RBX pro. The knickers go about mid chest and have a zipper to allow access. The regulars just pull the front down and let it rip. I can't imagine doing any distance of any real kind without both bibs and a super high quality pad like the RBX Pro have.

But on the other hand…... icon_biggrin

Question for all you flat pedal riders: Anyone using the Five Ten Elements shoes?  Or what shoes will you be using with your flat pedals on the TD?  I just switch to VP flats this weekend using Adidas Terrex Gore-Tex hiking shoes as an experiment.  The results was very positive, even with the hiking shoes I felt no shoe flex on the pedal.  All the flat specific shoes I've seen look like they might be a little slippery in the mud, and as everyone knows, THERE WILL BE MUD!

I've been using Adidas Terrex hiking shoes on flats for a couple of years now and like 'em.  Decent build & weight.  Good for riding, good for hiking, and can easily accommodate custom orthotics if you're going that way.  For pedals, I have VP Vice pedals on my upgrade list.  Good pin/traction system, and optional Ti spindles available.

I'm taking three pairs of SmartWool running or biking socks; 2 medium 1 ultra thin.  I ride using two pairs in various combinations and keep the third pair (always dry) for sleeping.  I also wash everything when staying in a hotel.  Never had a problem.

Keep nasty feet fungus at bay:

- Try to keep shoes/socks dry
- Rotate socks daily, wash 'em in a stream and air dry them while riding
- At extended rest stops, take socks off and expose feet/socks to air/sun (if any!), UV kills the little buggers (fungus, not feet)
- Take a medicated cream (not powder) to treat feet, apply every day or two - works on jock rash too!
- Wear either dry socks or nothing on feet at night
- Wool is a lot better at keeping feet smelling spring fresh and clean

...or go so fast that the fungii can't catch ya!

I find the extra training weight is great - as is the singing and conversation. They do require a substantial amount of maintenance during the ride, although mine is surprisingly tolerant about keeping moving for 1.5 hours or so without a break.

In looking at the 2015 TD Start List, I see one NOBO GD from UT and one from MT, I think.

Great news for Tour Divide racers!  HR BILL #04012015 contains infrastructure funding to resurface all backcountry dirt roads in the western states damaged by the last two harsh winters.  Contracts have already been awarded and work is underway in the southwestern states.  Many folks scouting the Tour Divide route have reported road crews are working on many of the route’s notoriously bad roads.  Don’t be surprised to find many of the roads on the route smooth as glass and some may be paved.  Expect Tour Divide records to be broken due to the improved road conditions.  Time to ditch your suspension fork, fat tires, ThudBuster and get your cross bike out and strap on some 40cc tires and hit the smooth dirt.  Have a nice day everyone!

Hello all, A note of introduction to say that I will be joining the 7 other aussies (at this stage ) heading to Banff for the GD.

Like everyone I have been preparing and training for a while, though had to wait until April to confirm that a start is a definite goer. So flights are booked., thanks all for the info. Looking forward to rolling out of Banff and heading down and exploring part of the Divide... 

Following on from the above thread - throw in a small can opener(folding blade) (about 25-30gms) in the kit - that way you have easy access to protein rich cans of beans and ready cooked meat meals, - open can , gulp food or pour into clip seal bags.

Hope everyones prep goes well over the next 9 weeks or so... take care, train, rest , stretch, eat......
