Especially the dogs! I believe the dogs of Canon Plaza NM have access to the internet and are avid blue dot watchers. They were all lying in wait when I made that right turn into town... |

Sounds like you got it where I did... Just after Canon Plaza in Vallecitos. About 5 dogs packed up on me running out from a broken down house, no major injuries but they definitely dragged their teeth across my calves leaving gouges and ripped up my socks. The hill going out of town only helped the dogs stay around me for longer nipping at me.. And it was on my birthday!

Hi Everyone,
Just got off the phone with the Banff Airporter, which provides shuttle transport from Calgary to Banff. They are again willing to offer a 15% discount to all Tour Divide riders. Use code TOURDIVIDE (all one word, caps not needed) to save 15%. I used them in 2012 and they were superb. Airport to door service almost anywhere in Banff or Canmore. And yes, they will happily take your bicycle at NO extra charge.

That does sound like the same pack. They did lose interest after I sprayed the ringleader in the face with electrolyte drink. I'll be ready for them this year  Can't remember exactly where it was, somewhere past Abiquiu NM, I also had a run in with a pack of five or six ranch dogs. Not a vicious chase this time, they were just out for a bit of sport I think. |

Trackleaders SPOT tracker rental - battery size?
Anyone know what Generation SPOTs are used for their rentals? I rented in 2013, and since I will most likely be in at least second place, am getting Lithium batteries ahead of time - AAA or AA ?
Matt and Scott are super busy, and I haven't got details from them (other than confirmation of saving me a SPOT).

Should be Generation 3 Spots that take 4 AAA batteries that last a looong time. If I recall they supply the first set of batteries with the rental. |

I turn it on every morning and leave it in tracking mode all day, turning it off when I stop for the night (or a little before if I am concerned about Spot stalkers). I can't imagine trying to remember to send an OK message every hour during the day. Bob |

I think Simon means the tracking interval when you have tracking on. You can configure the interval at which your track is updated on your spot configuration page to: 2 ½ (with Extreme Tracking only), 5, 10, 30, or 60 minutes. |

AHH - I have a gen1 and so far as I know it is 10 minutes, not adjustable. Also not sure if changing the settings in your account would have any effect on Trackleaders. |

BobM -- yes, gen1 is 10 min only. Our rentals are programmed for 5 min tracking, which is a good balance of battery life and tracking performance.
We'll have both Gen3 units and Trace units available. Both take 4xAAA batteries. With a Trace one set of lithiums is likely enough for many complete TD rides. Gen3's will need one or two battery changes. The Trace is smaller and very light -- downside is there is no 911 button.
For anyone planning to take hotel rooms (even infrequently) another option is to use rechargeable batts in a Gen3. Touring the CDT last year I was able to get ~5 days of 5 min tracking on my set (never did have them die). I'd just recharge them in town. Just make sure they are good (and fresh) rechargeables.
We'll have the signup going soon. Also the GPX will be updated, as mentioned earlier in the thread. In minimum there's a change in the Union Pass area.
