Yeah. I've got the things on board that I feel I will need to finish successfully as long as my bike, body and mind hold up, so I'm not fretting too much about the weight. I've been training with it so I'm used to it as well. It will be interesting to see how my views change post-race.

Well I saw on Marshals blog he has a new gas tank he is all bragging about. Its pretty sweet. Made by 12wheels aka Greg the Bolder Bikepacking Gear guy. I may have to make a mod for my tank- that cover looks like a great idea.
So I must post my new bags here as bikepacking.net is as close to blogging as I get. New feedbag and downtube bag and a new insert for my gas tank to give it a reusable zip tie phone mount and some compartmentalization as well as a small waterproof area. I used a new method of stiffener for the two new bags. Juice bottles. Set in after sewing. Really stiff but super light. Formed in one case to fit. They work really well. Did the same concept for my gas tank mod. Also, reusable zip ties have made mounting stuff like phones or gps or spot or cyclometer really easy.
MC- I dig your innovation: the head lamp location and mount, the custom aero bar pad covers, the world's biggest gas tank, and so on. Have a good time out there.

My Fargo is 45 LBS. I did lose 8lbs around the mid section this year ,so that will make up for the bike. Man - My Fargo is pushing about 45 or so dry :-/ . It will be really cool to see the rigs you veterans are riding up close in Banff in a couple of weeks. It's getting harder to go into work as the day gets closer...

One item I am carrying this year I didnt last year is a spare zipper slider. IMO when a zipper fails its usually the slider NOT the coil. I gave up on 2 frame bags when the zipper failed in the past. When my gas tank zipper failed last year I tried a new slider for some strange reason one winter day. Bingo! Its not hard to clip the thread at end of the coil and put a new slider on.

Ditto the comment made my Marshal. Much appreciated. One problem is that those of use using Apple do not have access to the GPS track and updates. Can download file but cannot open. Please tell me I am wrong and I just have not found the software.
I've been using a program called Adze on my Mac for quite some time to view GPX files and to change them if needed. When I download the files from topofusion, I just drag and drop them into the Garmin GPX folder and the deed is done. But Adze will let me change the color of the track, do stuff like load last year's track and the new one just released and see exactly what the differences are, etc. It's at http://kobotsw.com/apps/adze It seemed to be easier to use than Garmin Basecamp and allows you to see the terrain map, the street map and the satellite view around a track.

I see from the sign-in sheet there are some racers from Austin. I'm looking for some help setting up and learning how to use an eTrex just well enough to maybe do an ITT in August. I would be willing to pay someone to help me, keeping in mind I don't own a cell phone and have trouble telling time on my digital watch. Are there professional tutors?

Holly canteen Batman, it looks like the TD 2015 reroute around Rawlins bypasses the A & M Reservoir and (of course) Rawlins for a water source. There might be a gas station or store for water when the reroute crosses 80. I'm thirsty already.

I still miss a cool dip in the A&M waters. If the store at 80 has beer, it will make up for missing the A&M.

With limited (but some 1st hand knowledge) of area/roads--my perspective on Rawlins Re-route section is:
Atlantic City to Wamsutter-- 95 miles of public road thru generally 'fast' desert terrain, w/less than 4000 ft of climb, excluding unexpected delays no water re-supply should be needed for this section
Love’s are major truck stops—will have wide variety of all re-supply items (excluding bike parts), expect faster, more efficient pit stop than in Rawlins
Wamsutter to Brush Mtn Lodge: this section looks routine but might be 'interesting', will need to study up on section miles 43-62

Hey guys, wanted to share something I hope is helpful to someone. I found that most of the e-trex mounts were flawed. Most people secure them with zip-ties. I decided to create my own. Your local bike shop will give you a "dummy" Garmin with no guts. Simply cut the locking mechanism off the back and JB Weld it to the battery compartment of the e-trex. Then, it easily and securely snaps on to a regular Bar Fly. Bam, simple and effective.
