I'd rather carry a unicycle across the canyon than a bike!
Strong work Mr. Mone'. One of the faster times, period.

Think I'll be spinning-out my 32/11 'big' gear between Patagonia and Sonoita. However, this most awesome tailwind will make me feel like Superman. And the next day, pushing into the post-frontal cross/headwind, a Superman poisoned by Krypton. ...For Patagonia Friday...WINDS...SOUTHWEST WINDS ...WITH SPEEDS DURING THE AFTERNOON OF 20 TO 30 MPH AND GUSTS TO 40 MPH.

Great start today. Alex Harris has been in and out of the lead on the 300. He's less than .5 miles behind, chasing Hunter Keating. This could be interesting.

#AZT16 - Rod Dagneau called in with a pre-race call over night, Elliot DuMont called in from Sonoita earlier today and John Schilling called in from Patagonia! http://mtbcast.com/site2/category/azt16/

Been a bit absent for a while. But who could resist a good old fashioned TrackLeaders/BP.net race party?! Go Tom Wolf, Addy Marx, Kaitlyn, Denburg, and all my other friends out there!
Did the 300 start at 7am or 9 as usual this year? Wish I were there.

8am for the 300, one hour earlier than usual. 7am for the 750, which put the leaders through Parker just after 8am, so it's a pretty fair comparison of the two distances. There is much to watch this year.... can't wait to see it unfold.

Great group of folks this year. Neil, Sam and Joe Grant (750 leaders) came through Parker Lake racing each other hard. They didn't even want to stop and chat. Had to yell at Neil to get him to slow down enough for a high five. Neil's at 300 record pace, I would say, right now. Alexis and Kaitlyn are leading it out for the ladies. Psyched to see them both putting in fast efforts. Alex Harris, Hunter Keating, Pete B and Neil Stitzer seemed to be leading the 300 for the guys, currently behind a few 750ers. Conditions were cool and quite windy today. Temps are dropping rapidly in the forests. Hopefully the wind will be dying down soon for some good night riding. Eszter has some photos of the start here, I think they may be public on FB: https://www.facebook.com/eszter.horanyi.5/media_set?set=a.10103921526042273.1073741831.10209987&type=3&pnref=storyShe has some shots of our unicyclist, who was as stoked and energetic as anyone else! Jerry Q is our first scratch. Looks like Ginny and Jeff Miller are scratching out of Canelo Pass. A few others are still in the 'hills, we'll see if they keep it rolling. The moon is high, approaching full. It should be a beautiful night. Kinda wish I was out there zooming between Oak and Ocotillo right now.

I'm so with you Scott. As hard and painful as it can be, it is really so simple and beautiful in execution. Just GO! Wishing I was applying what I learned this year. Pretty amazed so many of the lead pack are 750 'ers. Always amazed how fast some of you folks can cover ground. Go pack! Suffer well!

Any chance of the Facebook photos being uploaded to the forum or shared elsewhere where someone with an acute social media disorder can access them?
Happy trails to those out there on the AZT

A few scratches overnight --
Ginny and Jeff Miller are out, after some slow miles and a hurt ankle in the Canelos.
Aaron Denberg is a AZTR salty dog veteran but said he just doesn't have it this year.
Mark Seaburg from MN is also out, calling it in Patagonia.
The Canelos give prompt feedback as to whether or not you 'have it' this year or not, indeed.
Neil and the boys had a good night, but by my reckoning they are a little ways behind 300 record pace. Certainly well in the running for 750 record pace.
Kaitlyn and Alexis are also running an hour or two behind 300 record pace, but certainly Kaitlyn is crushing for the 750.
Unseasonably cool temps will grant our racers a beautiful and fast day today. Those climbing Mt. Lemmon in the latter hours, though, will face near freezing temps. If it's not hot, it's going to be cold, somewhere!

Does anyone have any news on female 300 rider, Beth Shaner? Her spot has not tracked since 6:30 this morning. She's just south of I-10. Seems like there are a few spots that have been really slow to update.
