More scratches -- Alexis Ault and Elliot Dumont have decided to bail from Redington Pass.  Both set a scorching pace but it has proved too much.  Alexis can't get the needed calories in, and Elliot's tutu plan didn't work out well for saddle sores.

Doug Wenger is also out.

Mark Seaburg hurt his ankle in the Canelos as is out, at Patagonia.

Leo Aceves wrecked his bike, GPS, and glasses in the Canelos, but has continued on as an 'alternator' on the highway, resolving to fix his issues in Tucson and continue on.  Gotta admire that determination.

Kurt Refsnider has started his reverse 300 ITT this morning -- I believe at 5am.  He is tracking sporadically due to (apparently) not having full tracking service.  So we'll only know occasionally how he is doing.  Off to a good pace, certainly, thus far.

The Neil's are leading it out, just behind 300 record pace coming into Oracle.  Hunter and Alex Harris are trailing behind.

Kaitlyn also trails just behind 300 record pace, climbing Lemmon now.

Reports were of strong head winds yesterday.  That has taken its toll on people, I am sure.

Today is merely breezy and nicely cool.  The forecast for the next couple days has cooled somewhat, which is good news for everyone looking down the barrel of the Oracle -> Gila section, which bottoms out at ~1800 feet.

Lots of carnage this year!  Surprised by the early nature of most the scratches.  CANELOS ANGRY, MUST HAVE SACRIFICE!  (Uh, sorry.)

Sorry about the asthma, Tom.  Bummer that it came back,

We do have an ITT in Jason Thorman starting the 750 at 7am tomorrow.  It's possible he's already down here, but I'll send you his email just in case he could give you a lift to Montezuma pass (would be a little bit of a ride to PCL from there).

Kurt needs to hit another OK!  He should be 'golden spiking' / high five-ing Neil at some point!

Jason Murrells is ready to roll early tomorrow morning.  He said he is on East coast time so it might be early.

Meanwhile, Jack Malher is nearly 80 miles into his half-bike ride.  Got to admire the guy getting through the chunky Canelos on a muni.  He probably has the advantage though on sections like Oracle Ridge -- hoist the muni on your back and start walking.

That guy is amazingly tenacious. I thought for sure he was going to scratch after moving slowly through the Canelos but he's still at it! He's near KC now. I wonder how long it will take him to get to Tucson.

Welp.
After puking on day one and feeling that same grumbly feeling day two, I scratched at Lake Road last night south of I-10
Sad

I was so excited for this race too.

He is scratching, fetching his car at PCL and then fetching Kaitlyn from Freeman Rd where she is also scratching.

She had such a great pace going, but was experiencing breathing issues, not unlike a recent ITT attempt on this route. Bummed for her...

Neil S is closing on Neil B, but it looks like he will hold him off for the 300 win!

Technically Neil S would need to beat Neil B by a few minutes to claim the fastest 300 time this year, too.

Great riding by both of them!  Hopefully Neil B can keep it going after minimal sleep and such a strong 300 push.

Looks like Neil Beltchenko won the 300, hopefully hunters spot is struggling to update and he's on stitzers wheel.
