I hope all is well with Jack Mahler, I see he's taken a jaunt off route. That's a pretty long way to go if he's hitting Clint's Well, but if you need food/water, etc. It's gotta be done.

I'm guessing he found the trail impassable from the snow last night, and decided to take a detour to reach Mormon Lake. Hopefully I'll talk to him when he gets there, and find out what happened.

Major kudos to Jack for hanging tough!  It would have been a much shorter distance to turn south and go to Clint's Well, but he turned north  and is pressing on to Mormon Lake.  Go, Jack!

Plenty of death mud in that section. If there was any rain the trail might not even be good to walk. That whole section would fall under snow/mud detour if necessary.

I have such respect for everyone who started this endeavor on 15 April ~ even those who were not able to complete your ride for whatever reason, because I know you undoubtedly gave everything you had at that time before deciding to call it.  You are amazing.  Those who were able to persevere through the pain, weather, obstacles, mechanicals, etc. and reach the end of your ride...you are amazing.  And, the three who are still out there, giving everything you have and leaving it all on the trail...YOU ARE AMAZING!!!

It's been raining up there for two days and snowing off and on when the temps drop enough.

Got a text from him. "I am taking a road detour due to snow and peanut butter mud."

Became fascinated with this race when John Schilling passed through Gold Canyon trails. Started following and found out he was fan favorite of our area. Then one day at the trailhead in Gold Canyon I meet Holly have following her progress. Go Holly Go.

One more day of cold and wet for Jack and then perhaps a break in the weather.  Impressive ride, Jack.

Another long shot, did anyone find a Spot Gen 3 south of Mormon Lake?

Congrats everyone on finishing the full meal deal, especially those that duked it out in the end with snow and mud.  Before we celebrate the finish of the currently-in-progrees awesome unicycle traverse of the AZT, as I return from post-ride vaca and assimilate back into my mild-mannered-engineer-by-day persona; I've photo-dumped to the fakebook the few random pics I took during this year's 750 experience. For those interested: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1733709290178262.1073741834.100006176231590&type=1&l=228e82ec20

Perhaps I will put together a blog-post report of sorts this time around, as I continue to process what happened.  For now, I'm still somewhat preoccupied with sleeping and eating.  Oh, and work and family, too.

Kudos to Holly B, who seems to have finished the meat of the Canelos and should be cruising dirt roads to the finish of her southbound AZT at the border at Mexico this evening. I met Holly late last week as she was muscling her bike near the top of Ripsey. She had a massive gear setup and little (if any?) bikepacking experience, yet she said she was having a grand time and was determined to finish. Her attitude made my day and reminded me that it's just as hard, if not harder(!), to soldier through a ride at your own pace as it is to burn down a record. Holly, if you read this, I hope you had an amazing rest of the ride, and you impress the hell out of me.

Not only that, she rode from Tusyan to Flagstaff with essentially no headset and lots of missing bolts on her rig. Met her on Grandview Trail trying to get back to my car at Stateline after being deathly ill for nearly a week. I was in a shitty place when I came upon her. Her attitude and resilience were amazing and made my day better for having met her. Great job Holly!
