#ColoradoTrailRace16 Scott Sidener called in from the route near Chalk Creek. And Thomas Ray called in from Leadville! http://mtbcast.com/site2/category/ctr16/

Holey moley! Neil may get close to Jefe before this is over. Even though Jefe is in a "Tour mode" as he said he still is killing it! Lovely day to ride a bike in the high country.

Yes I'm betting Neil will pass all the group start racers today. That could be quite demoralizing if your in the lead group and think your doing good. Hopefully they keep their spirits high and push on!

Neil is still hauling! Don't know if Jefe will reach Silverton before 9pm tonight for resupply - going to be close. It will be even tighter for Ben to make Silverton by 9pm. Anyone know if Silverton has any resupply options open after 9pm? Gas stations?
Also love the close race for 3rd, with Aaron J., Aaron D., Ryan and Paul all in the hunt for the podium!

I also don't know how Jefe and Ben made it this far w/o stopping in BV for resupply. They both flew thru BV (even Neil stopped briefly in BV for resupply). They might be coming into Silverton on fumes.

I'm baffled by that too! There has to be more to the story though because I cant imagine they both picked up 3 days worth of fuel in LV and you just dont carry 25,000 extra calories 'just in case'! And as for them making it to Silverton, unfortunately I dont think either will make it there before 10pm with what they have left to ride (it will be very close for Jefe) but maybe they will pull out another magic trick and not get stuck in the Sliverton penalty box till Neil shows up! And speaking of Neil, he's 3.5 hrs ahead of his last effort in 2014 with great weather ahead. History in the making folks!

Talked to Teresa and she decided to scratch in BV with bad stomach problems. In 2013 she completed the CTR but wasn't able to eat enough and it could be categorized as an unhealthy experience. I think she was trying to avoid that again but was seeing herself heading towards a similar situation.

They didn't even stop in Mt Princeton for resupply (though they were there before 8 am so it might not have been open. At this point, I don't see how they can reach Silverton by 9 or even 10 pm so it seems like they will have to stay overnight there until the stores open up (unless they can find an open gas station or something else). They both did stop in Leadville but I doubt they bought/carried enough to make it all the way from Leadville to Durango. Can't believe how much Neil is crushing it this year (looking like a record if he keeps it up). I guess his first start was just warming up the legs - that must be his secret!

I couldn't imagine either of them not stopping in Silverton for food. If you ration and slow down you can really make the calories last.

Which means Neil will most certainly catch them...

Paul Hamilton's spot batteries die? He has been at 114 for over 4 hours now. Got to be hot on the La Garita Wilderness detour! Hope there is some cloud cover.

Getting exciting as Ben is closing the gap on Jefe in Segments 22/23, down to just 6 miles. However, the food and reaching Silverton in time (or finding any available food from a gas station/etc. after most things close) to get resupply may ultimately be the issue that determine the winner. Meanwhile, Neil continues to close in now that he is moving fast on the La Garrita wilderness detour. . .

It seems like going from Denver to Durango has a lot more stragedy as these guys get faster each year. Lots of easy food stops in the north half of the course. Not sure I could leave Leadville and plan on skipping BV and Princeton in hopes of making it to silverton during open/feeding hours. Even knowing previous trail fairy locations.

Sorry to hear Teresa scratched. I dealt with a similar situation in 2013 and it was definitely unhealthy even though I finished. I think it was part of the cause of the major edema I experienced. Nice job recognizing the issue Teresa and making the tough call. You had a great pace going!
