Jefe is on some sweet single track right now as are the chasers. And sunsets up there are awesome. Gunnison and Crested Butte boys crushing it! Jealous! Fun to watch Neil chase them down!

Noob question: Does Neil know how close he is to catching Jefe? More broadly, do the leaders know where their competition are throughout the race?

Congrats to the first riders that are about to finish! Neil absolutely smoked it out there...very impressive riding and focus!
I saw a couple photos of riders/bikes in Silverton, and the bikes were spotless! No mud, no dust, nothing! It seems like it was a great year on the weather and trail condition front. Lucky dogs.

Wow - Congrats to Neil on an incredible race and new record!!! Simply unbelievable. A superhuman effort, particularly given that he had a "warm-up" ride the day before!
Congrats also to Jefe and Ben for a great race. As a rookie, Ben's race was astonishing, hanging with Jefe the whole way.

Yep, that's how to find it for an ITT (as Neil's reload was). For Grand Depart riders you can just check the leaderboard for their Durango split, and sort by finish order. Great run by Neil. Can't believe he almost caught and passed *everyone*. That's nuts. From experience, I know that can be a huge boon to morale and motivation. For various unplanned reasons, I once started the AZT two days behind the grand depart, and having the carrots to chase was helpful, I thought. Not that Neil isn't silly fast regardless -- now owning AZTR and CTR records. Damn impressive. Lots of solid performances out there, nearing Durango. Denny Newell seems to be speeding up and is eyeing a sub-7 finish, methinks. |
