Scroll down for V3.  Okay, so i hate asking questions like this, but I have to - does one need the V3 basemap AND the V2 GPX? I am using a Garmin Oregon 600 and an eTrex 20 as back up. Because I break shit all the time. Isn't the V2 GPX enough? What do I need the basemap for? Insert embarrassed red faced emoji here.

The .gpx file will give you the "track" to follow, and that's all you need.

The basemap will give you a layer of other useful information, but in my opinion, it's not essential.

I've been wrong before ... I'm sure someone smarter than me can give you a more detailed answer.

GPX loaded without a basemap you will have a blank screen with a line on it. The line is the gpx track. You can navigate the route just fine this way. The basemap is the map of the area the track is going over. The basemap Scott is providing has been reduced to just the map tiles that cover the route to reduce file size. With the basemap loaded you have more information on nearby roads and landmarks.

I notice my TOPO 100K basemap stops at the US/Canadian border.  Scott's basemap fills in the Canadian portion of the route.

That makes sense. Duh. Didn't even think about that. Well basecamp is uploaded and V2 GPX reversed for NoBo in ridewithgps. no maybe some waypoints.

Hi fellow Divide riders,

I'll be touring NoBo this year, leaving in two weeks, so hopefully I'll cross paths with many of you.  Best of luck on the race.  Have fun and be safe out there.

Also, I put this post up in the "Bikepacking" section: http://www.bikepacking.net/forum/bikepacking/calling-all-divide-riders-i-need-your-photos-and-vids!/

I'm looking for video and still photos of the Divide for a documentary film I'm making.  Check out that thread, which explains it all.  I know you guys and gals will be racing, but if you happen to have time to get a few great shots or video footage and you want to have them possibly included in a documentary film please let me know.

Good luck with the rest of your preparations.

I'm seeing some references to a store 40 miles outside of Cuba (SoBo).  Does anyone know what this is referencing?  I'm seeing missions along the way.  Are these camping options?  Water options?

TIA!

Chaco Wash is a laundromat about 6 miles or so North of Pueblo Pintado on Hwy 197 ... it's a gas station, laundromat, post office and convenience store ... great microwave burritos, ice cream, etc  ... there is also a small store/gas station/bar closer to Torreon    after Chaco Wash there is nothing until Milan

Another rookie question I didn't find addressed in the thread. How much cash do people carry approx.? I imagine ATMs might be hard to come by on the route...

Thanks.

One thing to cheer everybody up and one to make you go 'harumph'
I went up Grave Creek road just after Eureka yesterday and stopped in a pizza cafe that is run but the Cafe Jax team; it is made on site wood fired pizza and is awesome. They open Wed to Sunday from 3 to 8.30 . There is also a taproom with beer and soft drinks and restroom facilities as a separate  business.
They are only 50 metres off route.

The not so great news is it dropped 4" of new snow in Fernie so far today and I've had to go back on the turbo trainer.

I am starting to ask questions that I should already know the answers to. Months spent researching the route and yet here I am asking how do I rent a Spot for a NoBo Tour Divide 16? I saw that Spots will be available at the start in Banff but what about those starting in AW? I saw the cost addressed in an earlier post, but not the how to secure a rental Spot for a NoBO run.

Does this sheet follow the race route and all the alternates?

Email Scott Morris at Topofusion or Trackleaders (he runs both). He has the rental units and will have a solution for you.

No, it's the real deal.

Then why no announcement here from Trackleaders, or identification on the form?  Smells like weekold fish.

Well, this isn't an official event .... the form is real however and will get you officially signed up on Trackleaders.  Stuff is getting real now !
