Me and some other guys were up at tree line below stony pass last night but decided to bail back to silverton after getting nice and damp. Going to try to head back up this afternoon, camp high and leave super early to scamper across the high sections. The weather has definitely slowed things down out there.

#CTR17 Brett Stepanik called in from near Upper Carson!

Once again I'm enjoying Brett's call-ins.
Always seems in great spirits.

And Hal's calling in with a forest fire on the American Trail race.

Looks like Plesko is getting a quick meal at Mount Princeton Hot Springs.  Nothing like pulling up to a fancy restaurant smelling like days on the CT.

He had ice cream...haha!  I guess that qualifies as a meal these days. He said he has had zero calories since sometime last night. Surely the ice cream will help a tiny bit!

Unlike last year, it doesn't look like it was a good year for the ladies.  Hopefully another female goes out for an ITT so we get a finisher.

Damn!  Zero cals since last night!  I guess he kept the theme going on how much food to carry as with the rest of his gear.
I'm amazed he didn't fully shut down running on fumes for that long!  Hopefully he can revive himself and have a good 2nd half.

Although checking the radar it looks like the Chris and the rest of the top dozen or so are getting nailed by another big storm.  Its going to be another epic evening for everyone with sloshy shoes and desperate bivys!  There is going to be some great stories after this year!

Any updates on Angel's tent this year? Saw a couple guys drop into Powderhorn, there is a PO there. Interesting.

It's looking like less than 5 days is going to be really tough this year.

Well that got interesting. Is there a bike shop in that area?  Mechanical, the draw of a hotel bed, or stealth mode for JB?  Nice move Seth but Chris is reeling you in. Let's see if Chris can hang with the gears to the finish.

Chris just texted a few minutes ago and said "JV at Conoco need food" -- I assume that means that he found out from Seth as he passed him that JB had to stay in Copper to wait for the Conoco to open to get food. He'll be well-rested at least when he gets back on the trail.

Looks like a lot of people are missing the turn for FSR 19...maybe there is a closer?

I notice Greg Lewis went back and completed it via back tracking.  Looks like Dana and Justin blew by it

Kinda easy to miss, and it used to not be a part of the route.  Hopefully they aren't on an old GPS track.

That said, staying on hwy 24 is considerably easier, I remember that little section being more tedious than expected.

Looks like Dana and Justin have now both backtracked and got back on to the route, no worries for them now.

Seth and Plesko are neck and neck, hope they stay close the rest of the way, would make for an edge of your seat finish

Mother nature has been a factor this year, it looks like going sub-5 days will be pretty tough this year.

Looks like a large contingent is around Leadville right now, but man the race is spread out a lot this year.

Anyone know anything about Meghan Newlin?  Her spot has been down for a while, hoping she out there still leading the women's race!

Good thing Dana realized his mistake and backtracked. I remember in the CTR 2013 that was an easy left turn to miss at Tenn Pass and I almost missed it.

Hey Race Fans!
I rode up to Searle Pass from Hwy 91 last night in hopes of catching the Top 3 racers. I must have just missed Plesko while I was parking at Copper.

I caught Jonathon about 5 miles up and we chatted for a bit. He was tired with swollen legs and mentioned his throat was hurting so bad he could barely get food down. He knew the gas station at Hwy 91 & I70 closed at 7 and was a little worried about a resupply between there and the finish. I hope to see him moving again soon!

I ran into Seth at the top of Searle Pass and rode back down to Hwy 91 with him. He seems in really good spirits and is riding incredibly well! He was audibly groaning at every little uphill in the trail and seemed content to just walk them instead of spending the energy to ride.

Just before we hit Hwy 91 I saw a headlamp up on Tenmile, sure enough it was Plesko.

This sure has been fun to watch. I wish all these maniacs the best!

Always nice to get a few details that the blue dots can't tell us.  How was the weather up there during your ride?  Was the trail dry?
