Here you go:
When the AZT crosses Snowbowl road (after the logging detour), go left down Snowbowl road, then right on US180, then right on FR151. Finally, take a right on FR418 and rejoin the AZT.
I thought it may have been that simple, thanks for clarifying! Amazing to see 5 riders within 5 miles of each other this far in. Will be exciting to see how it shakes out. |

There are a gazillion closure signs when you attempt to drop down out of Buffalo Park. Hanoch clearly didn’t know route changed, but he is going to get in big trouble and make Flagstaff biking community look bad if he gets seen, which is likely.

Just curious what others think: should he be relegated for deviating from route and breaking law? He is attempting to follow AZT. By the way, the trail is more or less gone for part of that section.

The track is getting updated on Trackleaders as I type. The logging detour was a last minute change, but still two weeks prior to the AZTR. I don't know what else more I could've done to promote it. Stay tuned...can't say I'm thrilled this morning.

PS I'm getting hand surgery 1/4 mi from Buffalo Park this afternoon & my designated driver will be riding there. He'll be telling peeps about the reroute/closure.

Something seems a little strange here. After I saw the comment about him going off route, I checked him on Trackleaders and the reroute did not show up. It looked like he was on the correct path. Then it changed as I refreshed. |

Yeah, it's definitely a sad situation. To preserve the integrity of the event, and others like it, I think a relegation would be appropriate. Such a pity, as he has totally crushed the course. 😥 He probably will not even realize his error, bit if he did and was able to get a new gpx file, he could retrace down the re-route and the ride it north again. He is following the route he loaded into his GPS before he left home. I found in 2016 that unless I could find someone with a cable that matched my GPS and had a computer with the appropriate software that updating my GPS before the start would have been impossible.
He probably thinks he is still following Rule 1 (ride the whole course and don't deviate).
A different but related topic: (AZT reroutes from year to year).
In 2016 there were official and signed reroutes off the GPX race track by Oracale, and I believe that would have been ruled off the race route,
However, we were informed to take the reroutes near Pine off the GPX race track and official AZT route.
It's hard to keep track.

Hopefully the Flagstaff community will be understanding, if they notice. Hard to understand ignoring the closure signs, but he probably thought the track superseded the signs. I guess Mr. Schilling has to make that call, but imo it seems too extreme. |

While all valid points, if the trail is signed CLOSED and possibly roped off with yellow police tape as it was by Schultz Pass Rd. it gets really hard to justify it. Everyone was reminded over and over again to read the rules:
'If you are directed off the AZT (by signs or personnel) for logging, fire, or other official reasons, by all means, leave the trail and return as directed or as soon as it makes sense to return. Obeying the law trumps following the route, every time.'
Does it suck? Yes. Is he having an amazing ride? Hell yeah.
If the signage was removed, then he's fine. Trying to get some confirmation on the ground. He's also not taking the snow detour, so there's that too. Kudos for that.
