It’s peak hour in the Canyon at the moment with 8 racers in the ditch!

Anyone in the Flagstaff area, keep an eye out for a lost phone. Evan S. thinks he lost it somewhere between the Fort Valley trails and Snowbowl Rd. He said he looked for a while, thought someone may have picked it up.

I began compiling the 750 finish times and updated the website. I want to take a moment to give a sincere Congratulations to each rider that rolls into Stateline CG. Such an amazing accomplishment and one to cherish. Lots of riders nearing the end and others still giving it their all, this thing isn't done yet!! I knew when I agreed to take over the AZTR from Scott that there would be some hiccups along the way. It's been incredibly rewarding to be involved in more of the behind the scenes aspects. Thank you to those who have reached out to me, it's really appreciated. Unfortunately, there are some RD duties that I hoped I never would have to make. I had to put an (*) next to Hanoch Redlich's finish time. Not a decision myself or Scott would take lightly. There were two factors here. First, he missed a 3 mile section of the route near Tucson. While not an exceptional section of the route, it was road/neighborhood riding, it is still part of the course. Second, he rode through an official trail closure north of Flagstaff. This can't happen. I should note that Hanoch has been the only rider to NOT take the optional snow detour near Flagstaff, staying true to the AZT and for that, well done!! This isn't meant to diminish his effort, he put in an absolutely incredible effort to come all the way back after taking 24 hours to recover in Tucson. AZTR Results

AZTR ResultsGood on you for taking the role on John. There wouldn’t be a better qualified person in AZ for the (unpaid) job. When it comes to enforcing the rules - yeah, not fun - but everyone will respect the decision because the rules are pretty simple and apply to all racers. Hanoch had an awesome run but one of the many challenges in this style of racing, on top of the physical challenge, is being diligent with navigation. Ignorance is no excuse. Carry on......

Because the spot went away on the North Rim we're not gonna know for sure without a gpx track, but I'll bet Hanoch Redlich also didn't avail himself of the snow detour to Jacobs Lake. That's a feat we tend to lionize racers for accomplishing.

His last spot was about 1 hour from the top of the North Rim at 7 days 16 1/2 hours, and he finished in 8 days 0 hours. So after he assembled his bike, he had about 5 to 6 hours from the top of the Rim to the Border.

His last spot was about 1 hour from the top of the North Rim at 7 days 17 hours, and he finished in 8 days 0 hours. So he after assembling his bike had about 5 hours from the top of the Rim to the Border.
Had to detour, No way to posthole that time.

It looks like Brett Stepanik is 'scootering' the bike along the No Rim snow detour. Maybe he can get what he needs to repair Jacobs Lake.
Some of his segments were 7 to 9 mph. So he is probably just walking all uphills with his singlespeed

Yeah, I saw he's rolling again & deleted my post. Forgot he's Ssp. I can guess it's tuff to mash the cranks after that hike.

Watching my son Dylan Gonda’s spot on the north rim trail, near the top, and NOT liking how it is positioned so far off trail. Any thoughts on the ability to rest off trail? Oy. Crazy race!
Sometimes in the canyon you will get some weird ping locations.

Oh man, the riders still out there may be in for some wet weather. A storm is bearing down from the west, possible snow near Flagstaff tonight. Evan's been pretty much on my time schedule for his ride and unfortunately for him, he may experience a bit of what I did on the North Rim in '16. Ugh. You fellas around Jacob Lake best make a dash for Stateline!!
Any word from Miroslav Franek?? Hope all is ok, he posted some high speed track points coming into Jacob Lake.

The problem with Miroslav is the poor guy doesn't know a word of English, and I for one am pretty weak on Czech. He was having tire troubles in the Gila Canyons, but his wheel was holding air and neither Ian or I could understand what the issue was so we rolled on.

Man,
Justin and Evan are out in some unprotected, wet, country at high elevation. Maybe they can seek shelter at Kaibab Lodge. Its gonna get close to freezing tonight in Flagstaff and we have some heavy sheets of rain this evening. I bet its super cold at 8500 feet. Hope they have some good rain gear or shelter. I saw Justin on Saturday west of Flagstaff and he looked in good spirits and strong.
Hope they are ok!!!
