I don't see a 2022 AZTR Race Discussion thread yet.

Scott, can you explain the different tracks for this years race?  I see the different labels for the different colors but I'm confused by the riders taking different options.  Specifically Ana and Alexandera.  Is Ana actually racing the 300 or are racers given options?

Looks like that route is the official AZT wilderness bypass, which was given as an option. Most opted for the traditional highway ride up to Lemmon, but a few went for a hike. Green track is the XL southbound route.

The red line on trackleaders is the wilderness bypass route that some of the crazy folks are doing instead of the hwy climb. It is not the official race route, but it is AZT. IUt wasn't originally showing on trackleaders, but I would guess Scott added it on to allow people to see progress on this (hopefully) optional alternative up Lemmon.

Can someone explain why there are two red lines routes towards the top of Lemon on trackleaders? Ana & Alexandria are on course but on two different routes at the moment.  Is there some strategy at play? Single speed vs geared route?

Alex is doing the single track of the Lemmon Drop in the up hill direction, part of a small group all single speeders. Ana is using the hwy as is standard.

While the trail silly hard it's likely safer.

Super crazy that there were multiple people crazy enough to take the Lemmon Drop. I see your point about being "safer" but man I would take cars on the HWY all day rather than push up that. Haha. I have never felt too sketched out by traffic on Lemmon to be honest. Good shoulder for the most part as you know and bike traffic is pretty normal and expected up there.

Yeah there have been more issues with jeeps on Reddington and any bypass of that is also ridiculous, not that I didn't look at it.

Yeah looks like he is following the normal NB routing. Could be he is on a time constraint, is just tired or is trying to avoid any issues with the road construction happening on AZ88. Guess we will find out eventually.

Alexandera is so hardcore, she's going UP the green line after Picketpost. Probably would seem easy after the reverse Lemmon Drop.... (Guessing she just missed the turn)

Jefe missed the turn to dirt around Rye. Easy to do depending on the color of the track on your GPS. I know when I went through, the color of the HWY and the track I was following was essentially the same. Hope he figures it out soon....

He figured it out. At least at was a downhill back to the course

Current record holder Nate tracked in Payson at 5:05:24 while Jefe tracked there at 5:04:45. So neck and neck...

You are likely going to need to get creative with lubrication in order to get you into Apache Junction proper to get proper chain lube as far as I know...
