Wow......looks like Fred was carrying just a Talon 11 for a hydration pack. Very minimal kit....I'm curious how he pulled that off with what seems to be fairly minimal cargo capacity on the bike. Nice!

I know last year Fred did not bring any kind of sleeping bag. Not sure if the weather report changed his approach this year.

Nice job Marshal! I figured you were in, but your last SPOT point was just shy of the trailhead. Congrats on taking a big chunk of time off your finish last year! Your finish time is also a palindrome, since we started at 9:03. It's 4:10:14. Full results in just a minute...

I turned my Spot off so I could send a "I'm OK" message to my wife's phone, forgot to turn it back on in the rush to get to the hotel. Thanks for a fine event Marshal PS (It's going to always be 717 in my mind)

I believe that Fred had no sleeping bag, but said something like " but enough clothes to survive the arctic" Proof that Fred is both smart and a bad ass. I also went sans sleeping bag and it was not the wisest choice, I froze on multiple occasions and had to push through some heinous PB like mud cause I was too cold to stop, plus I didn't sleep worth a shit as I was one cold idiot. But I also didn't bring enough clothes, warmer gloves/waterproof and booties would have made it much nicer, the downhill to summerhaven was scary cold, even laid the bike down on some black ice up there!! Not to mention Kurt was able to push on cause he had alot of warm stuff, I meanwhile was stuffing my feet into plastic produce bags I got in Tucson just to keep my feet from falling off, not the best gear choice there. But it worked, when in doubt be smart, or suffer!! Just remember that there is a fine line between suffering real good and getting hypothermic, not a fun line to cross. When chosing gear chose wisely!!! Peace jefe

Wow, truly an epic race. Good job to all those who started this one, pushing on in the cold, rain and snow is no small feat.
The forum commentary and Spot tracking is a great way to armchair these routes. Kudos to Scott for making it all work so seamlessly.

Fantastic job everyone! Chris and I are almost back to the Denver area...we'll both post some reports and photos after that and get a chance to read through all the discussion here. It really was about as wild a race as one could imagine, but we all enjoyed almost every minute of it (at least after finishing we can say that). More later...4 more hours of driving to do!

Home and recovering while the snow flies. Perhaps I'll spin around and pull cars out of ditches today with the Pugsley. Write up should be coming for this one, I'm feeling like telling the story.
Huge thanks to everyone who helped out us racers, ScottM, Jobe, Sheryl, MikeC (for the last minute rear wheel) and anyone I'm forgetting. No thanks to the lady running the circleK in superior :p
Awesome course and awesome racing with you all, I'll be back sometime!

GPX playback!
I've got everyone's SPOT tracks. But GPX files from the GPS itself are much more detailed and yield a better replay. I have tracks from Stefan, Jefe and I. Anyone else that wants to be a part of a race replay, email me your tracks and I'll post a video in a few days!

Stefan's report is up: http://www.bikepacking.net/tripreports/sun-snow-and-sun-the-09-azt-300/Looking forward to reading it... pics look great. Also, last chance to send GPX files if ya got 'em. I've got tracks from Jefe, Stefan, Marshal, Rob... otherwise you'll be a SPOT, and will look like you're cutting the course all over the place.

Here's the full replay, a combo of GPX where available and SPOT tracks otherwise. It starts at a slower speed and gets faster after Patagonia.
Also, check Marhsal's report and pics here: http://www.bikepacking.net/tripreports/azt-300-pretty-much-a-mixed-bag-this-year/

That is so freaking cool! Thanks, Scott! What happened to Jefe's track after Tucson?
