It looks like Chris and Kurt are over the nasty climb at Molino but Stefan is not over yet. After that it is a Prison Camp trail followed by the paved road to Summerhaven. That climb over Molino has to be pretty crappy right now I think its bad enough in good weather.

But that was about 1.5 hours ago based on the time stamp. I am sure they are on the highway by now if they kept moving through Prison Camp. I agree, those wet rocks down that technical section would be a bit of a hike-a-bike. Marshall just passed Tim on one of the fun sections of the AZT in Oak Canyon

From time to time the page, or system, or something, drops some dots and/or names from the leader board, only to reappear later. Also, if two or more riders are close together, the dots can "pile up", effectively hiding a dot or two.
I believe I fixed this glitch, soon after I got back home. Hopefully everyone shows up on the leaderboard from now on. By the way, the tracker only updates every 15 minutes, since that is the interval the SPOT feeds are updated at. It updates on the hour and every 15 minutes after.

rode pistol hill to three bridges, saw max, fred and rob, max said his first day was rough, and fred on our way out was drying things out at the campground at the end o the park, trying to figure out time on lemon, since there is snow the breeze is pretty bad and cold!! the rain when we saw them was not to bad enough to be a bother but not get you wet, then the sun would come out and you would start to overheat then go away and get windy and cold, and that was only 16 miles

Chris had mentioned this morning the possibility of trying to get a little bit of rest before the road climb. Is the spot where he and Stefan seem stopped the campground with the bathrooms?

Man it's cold out there, last year the heat was debilitating this year the cold was unrelenting.
The spot was nice to have it allowed Janine my wife to keep tabs on me all day and then she could tell just when I would make Sahuarita Rd. She just came out to get a pic but I ended up bailing.
I got pretty wet last night I should have stop to dry stuff out but it never stayed clear for very long.
I can't believe those guys are heading up even higher in this weather.
Looks like I am out again for this year.

I just got word that KC "dropped out around mile 17 after realizing he wasn't properly set up for the ride, he also banged up a knee pretty good. Maybe next year!"
Those first 16 miles are pretty demanding terrain. It's where Chad and I both sliced our sidewalls.
Reports are that someone without a SPOT passed Fred and Max last night. It's got to be Jefe, so that puts him in the next position behind our three leaders.
I just looked at the Catalina mountains and can confirm fresh snow on the ground to about 6000 feet. We generally only have a handful of winter storms per year that will throw snow that low. What incredible timing. I just went back through the daily temperatures, and today was the coldest day we've had in the last two months. Not since mid-feb has it been this chilly.
I'd probably be in the bathrooms at Molino with the guys had I kept going. Actually their point is just a few feet west of there if you look on the aerials, so perhaps the camp host (heated camper!) has taken pity on them. Kurt is into Summerhaven by now, but missed any services by about an hour. A strong push up the frosty mountain, no doubt. I'm pretty sure he knows about the fire station that is on the route. The fire folks are always kind to desperate freezing cyclists (raises hand... multiple occasions for me) so he should at least be able to warm up for a while indoors.

Kurt is warming up at the fire station. Stefan and Plesko are still hunkering down at Molino Basin Campground. Rob appears to have headed off route. Performance Bike may still be open, but he could be bailing? Max posted (?) on TucsonMTB that he felt terrible the first day, but he has now found his legs. Marshal continues on the route, currently weaving through saguaro forests in Colossal Cave mtn park.

You can say that again. I got soaked by a small storm a couple miles outside Tucson and even though I was wearing all my layers (and full rain gear), I was plenty cold. It put thoughts of pushing up the mountain out of my head quick... Good job lining up again Tim. Always glad to have you there. Perhaps next year the weather will strike a balance and be nice...

Yesterday was great I am glad I could be there. I must say that was one of the better days I have had in the Canelo's. The new trail alignments are much better even if they are just ruffed in it was more rideable and the walking way easier. I need to ride more weekdays like 07 Wednesdays with Zach I felt I could have kept going even at the slow pace. It's the little things nagging at the back of your mind like the funny zippy sound in the rear hub and the chain jumping the cogs and eating the spokes. And then it is too easy to head home. I do need to get out for more of the course maybe early May won't be too hot.

Just saw that! Oracle ridge in the dark and snow. I'm speechless. Best of luck to him. He must not be too cold. Carrying those booties the first day must be paying off right about now...
