What kind of rain gear do people typically bring? I'm accustomed to desert weather, so I can understand a few storms rolling in here and there. But last weekend over the Stagecoach it rained heavily for maybe 5 hours straight, so I got me thinking a bit more about spring outwear selections. Obviously we're too far out for predictions, just curious what others brought/used/didn't use in years past.
Hey Jason, What Neil said, and to add to that....last year no need for rain gear because the weather was so great. However, when the temps dip really low at night I throw on my light rain pants and jacket for additional warmth. The desert gets really cold at night and if you're riding that's not a problem, but when you stop to sleep (like I need to do ) it's nice to have another layer of insulation for warmth.

Planning on the 300 with a buddy from Flagstaff. Last year I rode a shuttle for a reasonable price. This year it seems like fewer options, and more expensive to boot. Anyone have beta? Another option, I can drive to the start with two other racers beside me and my buddy. Just need to figure out how to get back to my car after the race.

my gear is nearly ready I leave for Phoenix March 26 then plan to bike the 300 southbound, but am planning to stay ~April 1 to April 9 in the Tucson area with some camping overnight at altitude to get acclimatized (changed my mind about camping at altitude near the mex border) if any locals or other early arriving AZTR'ers want to show me some rides or yak over a beer, I'd appreciate a shout, thanks Rod Dagneau Rod, I thought the coyote rode an Acme Cycle.

Is the course the same this year as the "AZT 300 2014 revision 1 data GPS track"? I just want to make sure I get the correct file loaded on my GPS.
Thanks

One of my favorite things to do...sign up on trackleaders. Wish I could do it more often. Happy St. Patty's Day to ya! I'm signed up for the 300 and ready to roll

Pretty sure the closure is not part of the course. The equestrian bypass gives them a way to avoid Flag the race uses the main AZT after going thru town. Go here to get your tracks http://topofusion.com/azt/aztr.php

Is the route the the same as last two years - 2014 GPX rev. 1? Can we assume that if we get to the AZT section in Flag and there is a closure sign we can all just take the equestrian bypass to link back to AZT main trail cross the mountain?

Are there any facilities at the 300 start line or in the vicinity? Trash cans? Bathrooms? Potable water?
Seems like there is a campground, marina, even a store at Parker Lake - just not sure on the proximity.

The Equestrian Bypass section of the AZT goes north around Mt. Elden, the AZTR route uses the AZT that goes south of Mt. Elden through Flagstaff. This closure should not affect the AZTR since we'll be approaching that junction from the south, then heading west for a bit.

Yes, the route for both the 300 and 750 is the same as 2015 and 2014. However, we do have a new singletrack option in east Phoenix/Apache Junction. I have been wanting to add singletrack to the route there for years now, and the good John Schilling has come up with a viable route. Try as I might, I haven't been able to get up there to ride it and 'vet' the track..... so I thought, why not let the riders do it? It will be 100% optional this year. I will be looking for feedback from a few regular AZT nuts who I am sure will not be able to resist riding it, even if the temps are reaching for 100 degrees in Phoenix. Good chance it'll be canonized for 2017. It'll be available as an separate GPX, so the main file is good to go. Of course, there is always a chance of a last minute reroute or change, so check back, but that's unlikely.

I hope the singletrack isn't the stuff I rode this fall that connects Apache Junction to lost Dutchman. Nearly rattled my teeth out and left me scarred…

Some of that trail is babyhead bad. But John claims recent trail work, and there is lots of good trail in there too. Time will tell. Where did you get the route you rode in the fall?

I think it may have come indirectly from john. It was on tim's flagstone route.

Ah, OK. That was likely several iterations old. John might be able to comment on that.
