Gearing up and hoping for a decent weather window to chase the record.  Anyone want to join?  Will get my SPOT info over to Scott and hopefully things will go well.

They are off.  Looks like a 3:30a start from the border.

Today's weather looks *perfect*.  They hit a really nice weather window to get the southern/hot section wrapped up in, only to have it warm and dry up for the northern portion.

It's going to be fun to watch.  Go Aaron (and Paul) !

Yah, looks like perfect weather. It was 59 degrees in Yuma this morning, so I know it's not gonna be too hot over there this week

Yeah it's only supposed to be 77 here today. And then only into the low 90's for the rest of the week.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Kurt and I were talking about this over the weekend. If they can ride all of the course, no snow detours, what kind of time frame gives one of them the record?

We got pounded last night in El Paso.  Worst lightning I've ever seen.  A good bit of rain.  Not sure if that system was part of the same one that socked in Lemmon....we usually get Tucson's weather a few hours later.  It's nice here today.  Looks like they'll be headed up Lemmon in a couple minutes.  Maybe it will clear out for them and hopefully there's no snow to deal with.  They seem to be on a fairly slow or maybe conservative pace.

This just popped up from his facebook.

"Wild first day. Made it to Tucson around 5am just in time to charge my light, grab some calories and setup my bed in the corner behind Safeway like a bum. Lol. Stuck in Tucson til i get a tire. Worse imaginable luck last night with flats. Must of fixed my rear flat a dozen times. So upset with my tire selection. Back in April zero issues. Sidwall cuts, tubes with holes you name it. Trail is super tough to pick a good line. Grass is so tall it lays over the trail. Riding a line and then 5am stuck between two razor sharp rocks getting sidewalls are wrecked. Enough excuses. Going to see where the end of day 2 puts me. This issue will have me 8 hours behind my record schedule. Thanks for the support."

I wonder what tires he's rolling?  I've been so lucky with my tires this year.

Aaron's got a Saguaro on the front and had a Specialized Captain in the rear. I guess the Captain couldn't handle the AZT. Hopefully he's got a Rampage on there now and can tear town Oracle Ridge without having to worry about his tires! I was surprised to see Paul Romero hung out while Aaron waited for the bike shop to open. Aaron didn't look too happy this morning in a pic taken by their shuttle guy who seems to be following them along the route. We'll see how many more days Aaron and Paul continue to get along with one another ;-)

Everything is clearing up now. Can't imagine there's any snow.

Sun's a little warm but there's a nice cool breeze.

Looks like their climbing Reddington Road right now. It's good that they hit it on a weekday.

Shuttle guy following along!  D'oh!

It's definitely harder to take clean lines out on many trails around here.  Lots of drying grass and stickers that went crazy from some big storms.

Perfect day to be riding what they are, and tomorrow looks good for heading toward Superior.

We'll see how long the shuttle guy follows.  That would be so boring.

You don't want to know.  (I'm sure you already do).

Looks like Aaron decided to throw in the towel.  His buddy is still cranking along.
