888-866-4491 is the number. You can call in anytime on the route. Say whatever you want. If you head over to mtbcast.com you'll get an idea of how it works. The Huracan is wrapping up today so there are a lot of calls posted. You get three minutes per call but if you need to say more just call back and continue and I can edit them together. There's also an app for Android and iPhone. Just search for MTBCast. There's a call button in the app. |

I am planning to head down to the Freeman cache next weekend, clean out the empties, drop some general use gallons & hopefully go for a mellow spin on the Boulders segment. I'll report back.
As for the Kelvin cache, as of last weekend there were 31 gallons!! This cache isn't as critical as the Freeman cache can be since the Gila is only 2 miles down the hill & the Wilson Trailer court another 1/4 mile further.

I've been toying with the idea of doing and ITT in November leading into Thanksgiving. It looks like the temperatures will be ideal from the past few years, from what I've heard there wont be snow yet so the whole 750 will be clear, and whats better than ending with a Thanksgiving feast? Any locals down there have any input on this idea? Also thinking about doing this Southbound but not set on that part of it. Am I stupid to be considering an ITT in early June? Way too hot? I get off crutches the beginning of May and figure if I am super lucky and PT goes really well I could at least make my way through the 300 and go farther if the leg feels well.
Anyone here done a thru ride in June? Would you do it again?

Just took the plunge and I'm in for the 300. Unless something stupid happens (sickness, injury, my truck breaks down), I'm closing the shop for a few days and heading for AZ in a couple weeks! As Scott told me a few days back, the 300 can be my base miles for the year... right? Right? Yikes.  |

As of now back in for 750 and maybe the triple crown!!!
Moving to metropolitan Rowe, NM on Saturday. The plan is to open a store in nearby Santa Fe, but we are going to first dial in the Idaho Springs store, the websites, Facebook, reintroduce our wholesale site, get our employees up to speed, etc. We plan to reskin and optimize our websites, build new shelving for the store, add new products, etc.
We want to get everything going the way we have always wanted it. Most of what we do right now is reactionary efforts. We would like to get ahead and be proactively managing our business and seeking new income streams.
So the 750 will be a perfect chance to unwind and get my head straight for my new career as business owner.

Woah, hoss ... that's pre-arranged support, no? Maybe I'm misunderstanding motives, but I thought the whole point was to not count on water caches, esp. Freeman Rd as has been mentioned in past posts. As in, not a smart idea to plan that water at Freeman is given, from safety, survivability, and/or ethos viewpoints. |

My guess is you could pay someone to drop off extra water, as long as that water is available to anyone - i.e., no names on bottles, etc. Still, I don't think the caches should be counted on, as has been discussed in the past...

ITT in November seems do able. The desert section should be awesome. It will be cold on the rim at night but manageable. It's kind of an intriguing idea. Not that I have real world race experience but I have ridden most of the AZT. Keep everyone posted with your intentions and get healthy.

An ITT in November could be risky. The North rim is near 9000 feet and it can be very frigid there. A long time ago, on a road bike tour over Thanksgiving break, I actually got caught in the Grand Canyon when it snowed about 8". Spent a couple of days in front of a big fire and melted my sleeping bag. This was before the Grand Canyon was built up like it is now. Then again, if it is a mild fall it would be great!

I rode Reddington Rd to Summerhaven this past weekend...trail was in good shape. Plenty of water still in the washes/tanks along the way...didn't think to check Pallisades...dumb...
All this talk about dropping bottles...I thought intentional caches were illegal?

Tank along 4417 near Chiva...I had started with 230oz of water so didn't fill along the way to Mt. Lemmon...some washes were pretty scummy but most of the tanks looked good
