What John should have said "my wrist hurts so I need to ride some smoother trail out at Freeman Rd. Since I'll be there anyway I let you guys know how much water is there. As well as dropping some since I am there anyway". No bottles are marked for the race. Hikers are usually all thru before race season and that's usually a week or more earlier. No matter how much John sees now, hiking season is now and they'll all be thru there in the next few weeks. Take some extra when you leave Oracle at least a liter to get you somewhere, Dudleyville's got a full C Store.

Tim's correct, I probably should've worded it differently. Found out today that upon further review, my wrist is fractured. Looks like a bit of hardware is in my near future. With that said, I probably won't head down for a ride on the Boulders segment. These caches tend to be maintained fairly well by the locals, but as stated earlier, don't COUNT on it. Back in '03 when I did the 300, I had a pretty good level of confidence that water would be at Freeman, but I left Oracle with enough to get me to Kelvin. I was also riding closer to the back of the field. Just be prepared out there.

I will be at PCL for the 300 start as planned, maybe I'll have time to see the start of the 750 riders too. I'll be shuttling a couple of hikers down to Montezuma Pass so they can hike passage #1.

I too would like some clarification on the road conditions from PCL to Montezuma Pass, graded dirt? Suitable for a crossover type vehicle I presume?

From the pass to the lake is all state hwy fully graded 2 wheel drive wash board, fairly scenic, there's a creek you cross that's always running.

Woah, hoss   ... that's pre-arranged support, no?  Maybe I'm misunderstanding motives, but I thought the whole point was to not count on water caches, esp. Freeman Rd as has been mentioned in past posts.  As in, not a smart idea to plan that water at Freeman is given, from safety, survivability, and/or ethos viewpoints.

The water caches are fixed locations to my understanding and are open to any and all users of the trail. Adding water for anyone to use is just good karma. You don't have to use em. I definitely don't think that the water i put in in the past was only for me. Now adding or hiding of food or water at other locations to gain an advantage is against the ethics of the "self-supported ride."

Right now we've only got 30 signed up, and more in the 750 than the 300!  Surely that will change... I know of several locals who will likely be signing up for the 300.

Deadlines
Rentals: Drop dead deadline to sign up for a rental tracker is one week out from the event.  So March 27th by midnight.
Private SPOTs: No deadline.  You can be as indecisive as you want -- but the sooner the better.

If you're on the map now and have your own SPOT, now is a good time to fire it up and make sure everything is hunky-dory.

Hey all,

I'm unable to do the 300 this year because I have my daughter that weekend over her spring break.  Kristen and I biked the boulders segment and Antellope this weekend.  Beautiful out there.

I dropped off 4 gallons of water.  The freeman water cache in the metal box is full.

If I have a little time free I will try to ride out and greet a 750 rider or two as you head to Flagstaff.  Good luck.

So I loaded the track on one etrex20, then loaded the same track on my back up etrex20 and one route is different than the other. I did everything the same one track seems to be shorter than the other. I'm really bad with this kind of stuff, anyone have an idea what's going on.

Trying to work out transportation to the border. I have a truck and I am going to park it somewhere in a major city, maybe at a car-park and was wondering if anyone has rented a van or has space for one more from anywhere to the start or Sierra Vista. I have contacted Mark at Sun and Spokes and he is offering rides to the start but would rather park my car farther north then Sierra Vista. For anyone doing the 300, if someone would like to drive my truck up north from Picket Post if I park it there I would be happy to pay for gas for you to do so and park it somewhere upstate.

Geez I am having issues loading the 300 gpx file onto my oregon.  I think it's because the track is over 10k track points.  I am on a Mac so Topofusion is not an option does anyone have any advice how I could split the track via base camp?




I think I have it sorted by using the reduced file from the azt300 2014 ... is there an issue using this track?

You can grab the simplified version from Scott's GPX directory, it's already been simplified to 10k points and is ready to be loaded. Here's the link to the file that should be used for the 300...

Looking for some logistical HELP, PLEASE.

I am just starting my search on getting to the start. I will be going full meal deal so the border is my destination.

I am incline to drive to a certain point and then catch a ride from another. I am coming from Idaho. The closer I leave my rig on the North end of the route the better.

Who is heading that way with room?

Anyone from St.George area heading that way? Or driving through St. George?

If you think you have a possible option for me please message me. I am kind of flexible. I am willing to chip in dollars and help on the tail end if possible.

Karma points!  Got it.  I'm all for those.  Just like getting an AZT Membership (at any level).  Plenty of karma point references in this thread, by now, too.
