There is a new segment steward fairly new I know I looked at it in the last 6 months and that segment below Dan Saddle was still open. That's a tough segment to have.

There are rumors of tree clearing on 'the' Oracle Ridge. A photo, of epic proportions, has also surfaced. The pilot of this beauty of a bike is even rumored to be taking a 'whimsical' crack at the 300 himself. He is the ATA steward of Oracle Ridge's segment -- an enviable position, indubitably.
Is he going to ride that bike on the 300?  |

Stopped by Tiger Mine water cache on my way to Tucson and added 8 gallons. There are already over 35 there and even some in the bushes. Trails look beautiful.

If only Oracle had a post ride reward for the Ridge like Copper does for Tenmile. Hard to beat an Adrenaline Burger at Endo's, which is a monster burger stacked with Canadian bacon, Gruyere and a fried egg. And don't forget the sweet potato fries! The nice part about the Tenmile Range is that you can coast all the way down after hiking all the way up. The Oracle Ridge "descent" leaves a bit to be desired...

From ATA director, and all-around hero, Matt Nelson: "Just heard from Fred Gaudet, the ATA’s Water Source guru, that he placed some water at the cache at the Freeman Road trailhead. However, there are so many thru-hikers making their way north right now that I wouldn’t be surprised if the supply was depleted by the time the AZT 300 rolls through this weekend. For a complete list of the water sources along the AZT, check out: http://www.fredgaudetphotography.com/aztrail/watercurrent.pdfThis is a very comprehensive resource that is updated frequently, usually based on trail user reports on water conditions…which vary from week to week. One important water source that is currently not available is the spigot at Palisade Ranger Station. I know that this is a critical water source for AZT 300 riders, and many people recreating on Mt Lemmon, but as of right now it is shut off." Summerhaven (visitor center / bathrooms) and the Mt. Lemmon Fire Station (on route) are the best bets of potable water on the mountain. |

750 riders,
I was a few hundred yards away from the AZT by Ski resort several miles after heading out of Flag Saturday afternoon. In the open areas snow was clear. You may run into some mud in the trees. If so it should end in a couple miles.
I would still plan on some cold nights up on the rim. Days have been nice in Flag lately.

Anyone know the average amount of time for middle of the packers to hit Patagonia from Parker? I can't remember what I did last year... Except that I was pretty slow!!

bncrshr77 - check last year's tracker on the leaderboard. You'll be able to see the splits for everyone into Patagonia.
Eszter and I rode Bugs/Prison today. We can confirm there is water in the Molino area. In fact, there is currently filterable water *on the trail* a quarter mile after the bathrooms. I also observed a good amount of water in Bear Canyon, near milepost 11. I didn't check West Spring on the other side of Molino, but it's usually pretty reliable.
Don't be lame and beg water from people in the campgrounds. Carry it, or find it.
