I think the stop sign is on a slope. Not 100% positive this is the same stop sign, but pretty sure it is.
I think it's just perception.  I really want to see the road in the next two weeks.  We might be snowshoeing it.

I have crossed the trail on the above mentioned sections once in january with alot of snow.  The melting snow that drips down on the trail and refreezes can be super slippery.  There was one section about 15 yards that took me a long time to get through.  I was an avid climber for 20 years.  I think it was much colder then (January) than temps you riders will experience in April so it should be good.

Some hikers in snowy conditions use a slip over lightweight crampon that gives good traction in ice.  Once again I think it will be warm enough that crampons won't be needed.

Rhino, thanks for that piece of intel.  They may only have it plowed from the trailhead to the lodge / back country office, or perhaps it's plowed the whole way to Jacob Lake.

A one lane snow-walled road does make me somewhat nervous, since safety is a concern, with more plowing or work on the road possible.  2 lanes is definitely better.

This today from a rim runner I contacted:
There was a lane plowed on the north rim and it was either dry or slushy at most. When I got to the ranger station where the water is located I saw two trucks that looked like they had been used recently. Unfortunately I am not too familiar with the road leading in and out of the north rim so I don't know if there was a gate or anything lower. I am only able to speak for the short one mile loop from the NK trailhead to the ranger station.

Well, we will soon have a southbound 750 dot to follow, and a firsthand account.  So we should know more in a few days.

I take:
10>83 to PCL
Then the follow the road/AZT to border.
Others come in from Sierra Vista, so evaluate that option.

Way faster to go down to SV then over Montezuma Pass. It's actually quicker to get to the start of the 750 then it is to get to Parker Canyon.

Thanks AZTtripper, that's what google map shows as the quicker route. What's the name of the road you turn off of Montezuma Pass?

Good answer.  I generally tell people (that ask) if they can't find the start of the race, they shouldn't be doing the race (as Tim knows).
