As usual feel free to call in updates to MTBCast and I will post them up! 888-866-4491.
Cool, I have never used MTBCast, but I did listen to some on last years race. Anything special to do when calling?

Nothing special. Just give your name and race (and by that I mean "Arizona Trail Race" and not "caucasian"), although no other race will be calling in at that time..it helps, and an update. Rambling on with vivid descriptions of hallucinations due to sleep deprivation and exhaustion is encouraged!

For the reroutes, as I'm not a local. If one were to attempt the actual course. Would you realize it's pretty snow covered early or is it a 5 mile in -now I wish I would have taken the reroute, kinda thing. Generally speaking, as I know there are a few.

Fire up on Molino now. Local Tucson news says Catalina Hwy currently closed from bottom to milepost 7. Will have to keep an eye out.

MVMorten - definitely check in before crossing Redington going north on the AZT.
Plan B: Redington, Haul Road to Control Road, back UP to Oracle Ridge #1, then down.
Plan C: Redington, River Road to San Manuel, Webb Rd to where the AZT crosses it.
Right now I'd lean towards Plan B, because to take Oracle Ridge out of it would be sad indeed. I don't think I could withstand the volume of hate mail if people didn't get to sample its particular brand of hike-a-bike goodness.
Let's hope this fire goes out quickly... and the AZT is open in the aftermath. It is cool, and it's not summer/dry, so perhaps it'll just be a small one.

Hate to say this, but AZTR without Oracle Ridge would feel like cheating.

Will a gpx file get added to the TF page with the fire reroute/detour in it?

Just to verify, the Haul Road is 4450, right? I was figuring that would be the best reroute, as painful as it might be. Adam and I were joking while watching the news that we would have to climb the control road just to take the ridge back down. Hopefully it doesn't come to that! From the top of Redington, around the mountain, up the haul road and control road to the oracle ridge trailhead...that's about 60ish miles?

Hopefully the fire stays small and can be contained. Sometimes the USFS puts a priority on keeping a trail open when they know it is thru hiker/biker season. [Edit - re-drew the route as I got off of Rd 4450] I just drew in the route. If this is what Scott envisioned with Plan B (using Rd 4450), it shows 44.5 miles, +7,300 /-3900 in Topofusion. What it bypasses shows as 30.4mi, +7300/-3840. So it is roughly 15mi longer with similar elevatio gain. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/20048723Looks like there are some stock ponds, springs higher up and maybe running streams in the draws. I won't be able to download anything after tonite but will load this in the Garmin and cross my fingers it isn't needed.

Scott you are a sick man to suggest we go all the way around Lemmon only go up the control road just to go down Oracle Ridge. Sick man indeed, but just sort of person to make sure we all HTFU... I actually like it. Although I still would rather just ride the "proper" course.

Evdog that looks right, it's the old Jonesy snow detour plus the climb back up the control road. HTFU is right.
On snow detours, even if you 5 miles in when the shit hits the fan you should be able to get back to a graded road crossing and bail.
Man this is not the year for a complete run but it's keeping things interesting for dot watchers.

If it doesn't show up here by Friday we have a chance: https://www.geomac.gov/viewer/viewer.shtml Once they get on this map it usually means more personal & $$$, leaving bikepacker SOL.
