Hello,
I'm just curious as to when the projected start dates for these events will take place for 2015. I have to bid on vacation almost a year in advanced so any rough start dates would be greatly appreciated. Good luck to all who are able to participate in the CTR coming up soon. Thanks
Rich

http://www.topofusion.com/azt/race.php4/3/2015 I am already thinking of it and I know others are as well!! As for CTR, Stefan is a little less likely to announce a date right after the race. He usually waits until January-ish. And since he likes the full moon for night riding, I would guess 8/2/15 as the likely date for 2015 CTR.

Great,
Thanks for the reply and link. Now for my second question. Is the AZT doable on a rigid geared bike or will I have nerve damage by the end of day 4?

Arno Minner pulled off 2 750's the rigid way. SS I think too.
I would not do it, But then again I rode FS in the Tour Divide. Used the lockouts too much probably though right hand is numb. Left hand was really hurting after the 750 this year. On a FS. Went 1x in TD to fix that but then you shift a lot more with right hand.
So IMO anyone can ride AZT rigid, its the pain later in the race and recovery afterwards that will be the issue. Hard to predict how you will feel.

2013 AZT 750 DNF still sours my taste buds…rookie mistakes. Learned a lot about the event and myself. 2014 Great Southern Brevet, Kiwi Brevet and Stagecoach 400 successes have kindled my desire to finish the AZT 750 2015 AZT 750 decision has been made. I'm all in. [raising money for "MARSOC Foundation", a charity close to a buddy of mine's - he will be there to finish the AZT 750 as well.]
See you all at the boarder. I won't miss the start this time.

ifrpilot, I'm in the same boat here at JetBlue. Who you with? I guessed correctly last year for the CTR and by what dream4est stated I would think 8/2/2015 is a solid guess. Last year started on the July 21st (full moon + Sunday) and this year 8/10 (full moon + Sunday). I remember him saying that starting Sunday works best for the durango->Den route because it lets people travel on Saturday.

Johnny_mtb,
I'm at SWA, trying to figure out all the start dates as my bid is due pretty soon. Do you plan on doing either of the 2 in 2015. If I can't get the CTR off the next is the AZT. Thanks for all the replies fellas and I'm going to have plenty of questions for you seasoned vets!

I rode all of them on a rigid SS, both carbon and steel forks. If you ride rocky rigid all the time it's fine. If you don't, I wouldn't do it to save weight.
ITI was hardest on my hands/wrists of anything!

Will CTR start in Durango in 2015? As it did in 2013? Not sure if this was a 1 time thing or if start will now alternate years (Durango in odd # years, Denver in even # years). Thanks!

It is my understanding that it will alternate each year into the foreseeable future, so 2015 will start in Durango. I am hoping to do the CTR in 2015, though I will go against the flow and start in Denver.

As far as I know - and Stefan can correct me if I'm wrong - we're still on for 2015 at Velorution Cycles, Durango! I'm looking forward to hosting the start again, if for no other reason than it's a great motivator to actually be on the start line again...

I'm trying to plan out my next season (since this one was a total bust for me, with a failed TD effort and achilles injury. Still can't ride...) I was going to go again for TD 2015, but now I'm thinking of maybe giving the AZT and CTR a go instead, not putting all of my eggs into one basket and sacrificing my end of summer two years in a row. But these races both happen during the school year, so I need to plan it out well ahead of time. -Andrew p.s. Would be AWESOME if the CTR could start in July again! Just sayin...

Yes, Durango start in 2015! How about Sunday, 7/26 @ 4am in front of Velorution Cycles just like last year?
Full moon is 7/31, so there will be more and more light as the race goes on. Based on feedback this year, an earlier start date seems better for a lot of folks, especially the teachers in the bunch. Plus there is a bit more light. 4am start to 1.) get up and over Indian Trail ridge ASAP, and 2.) allow projected sub-5ish day finishers to resupply in Silverton before 8pm. There is almost always a 1 week minimal monsoon window at the end of July and early August, but my trackrecord for picking it isn't so great. There were a couple years we nailed it, but it is really a crap shoot.

Another blood moon for the 2015 AZT I knew it would be full, but not another blood moon (eclipse). Very cool. Sure to mess with people's minds if they aren't aware!
