Scott just called from the hotel in Patagonia, total shutdown of the stomach caused him to pull the plug.

Wow!! Way to go AZT'ers!!!
This time last year I was out training for TD2012 and got to meet Jill, BearDog and MarkC as they motored north on the AZT750. This year looks like another amazing race! Go Everyone!! I am just so proud of you all for making the start line and giving this a go! You are hero's in my book!
I just got off the phone with Rich Wolf. Rich said yesterday was tough, and he had a wrong turn in there that cost him a 5 mile backtrack, but he was in excellent sprirts. He was camping at some place called The Ranch for the night, and planning on an early start in the morning. He is an amazing cyclist, a SC400 and a TD2012 veteran. I am so proud of him because (we think) Rich, at 60 years young, is the eldest racer to have started the AZT750 (yes he's doing the full monty) and I have no doubt that he will be the eldest to finish!!!
I am also rooting for some additional SC400 2012 veterans, to include Laurie and Steve Horton ( you guys rock!!), Michael Braun & Sharon Sell (all the way from Alaska to Arizona to tackle this beast, are you guys kidding me!?!? phenomenal!) and of course, lady of hour, Ezster H. And if there is anyone I forgot, please forgive me.
But it is an illustrious field......veteran racers abound, and from Tour Divide 2012 (where my heart lies), in addition to Rich and Eszter, we also have repeat performances from The Artist - aka - Justin Simoni, Cjell Money and Eric Foster (break a leg!!).
Not to forget Scott M who was planted at Brush Mountain Lodge to goad us on after a feeding and verbal encouragement.
But my biggest 'Shout Out' must go to all the Rookies who are getting out there and just giving it a go! For you I have the utmost respect and admiration.
And I can not finish this post without a special cheer for Eszter, whom I have only ever seen her tire tracks, but what a way to start this race, and she's almost done!!!! yay!!
For all the racers, go go go!!!
To all the fans and family, I live in Phoenix, so if any racer finds themselves in need of help around the Phoenix area, please PM me and I will see what I can do.
Tailwinds to all the racers.......pedal fast and safe!! Much Love,
Katherine Wallace Tour Divide 2012 & SC400 Allumni

Mark Challoner here. Sliced a sidewall at mile nine, two more flats, then wasn't feeling well at all when I started up Reddington. Bailed. Can whoever's updating the tracker note that? Thanks.

ScottM, Do you have anything to do with Trackleaders.com? The answer is probably no but it's worth a shot. My wife Sheila Torres-Blank is racing and I would like to add a picture to her name on the tracking site. Do you know how or who I can send it to?

This has been a fun race to watch so far! And as usual, it sounds like there have been quite a few sliced sidewalls, some dehydration, and some crashes. It's not a particularly friendly course!
It's looking like Aaron Gulley has had a nearly perfect ride up to this point and should shave ~2 hours off Scott's impressive record. That must feel great after all the bad luck he's had over the past few years in this race.
Eszter is on her way to smashing the Lynda W's women's course record. It looks like Eszter could finish by sunset if the rest of the day goes smoothly for her.
And Pete is having a great ride, too, right now running without his SPOT checking in. If he rode through the night at the pace he was pushing before midnight, he could have made up a lot of ground on Aaron.
And Aaron B is looking like he's pushing a fast but smart pace at the front of the 750 field. He wants the record, and while he's a few hours off pace right now, he should make that up tonight. Hopefully his bike is working better this time around without all last year's bad mud to destroy his drivetrain.
As for ScottM, get your stomach in order and get back out there!
End everyone else...keep chugging!

Yep good stuff, it's a tough one for sure but that's the point right!
Great to see Rich W up and at it this morning, while Rich may be the oldest rider to compete in the 750 he's just a kid along side many of the thru hikers. Very inspirational, I need to get back in the game myself.
Scott said he might try for a restart after a recharge.

I have Aaron about 35 minutes BEHIND Scott at the Gila checkpoint right now. I know Scott rested a few times on the climb out of the river. It is going to come down to the wire. If Aaron breaks the record, it is going to be under an hour.
It also looks like Aaron rested for about 1.5-2 hours last night.

Still in Patagonia, coming back to life slowly. So stoked to see both Ez and Ag dots tearing it up!
I think they will both set new records. I plan to heAd to picker post to pick Eszter up.
Canelo west has never been so hard. Miserable night in the motel. Win some, lose some.
Ez and Ag - go win!!!

Blake is back on track maybe it was just a spot error. If not I should think that loosing the elevation and having to climb back up really sucked.
The race for 3rd in the 750 has quite the 4 some going, hard to tell with the spot lag just who's where.
Get well and back in it Scott.

Aaron was lagging a bit behind, but just pulled ahead with a 2minute lead of Scott (plus or minus SPOT message latency/GPS errors).
I've got the two side by side and it is VERY close--slightly different course, of course. The Hope Camp addition may make the course a bit longer than the X.9 route, but the mighty flowiness and ease of the singletrack in it may be rejuvenating in itself?
