Hey Sharon, I sometimes wish my wife wouldn't allow me to go on these torturous events with you. Don't get me wrong, I like your company, but perhaps we can watch a movie next time? At least let's do some training rides for the next one. Just winging it like this was pretty brutal. Cheers. |

Getting interesting at the front. At 3pm AZT time...it looks like MAX took a wrong turn and AARON has made up 11 hours on MAX across the ditch. I don't think AARON has slept however.
NO Wrong turn for MAX...just wanted a nice place to sleep.
Sheila just keeps moving. She was having lunch in Pine the last time I talked to her. She found a Brew Pub.

Anyone who does the AZT 300 and wants to come back and do the AZT 750 is one sick puppy! Congratulations on such a fast finish with a minimum of training.
I got a ride from my sister to Payson and then hitchhiked up to Clints well. Had some food and then biked another 38 miles before I bivied for the night. Coyotes howling and low 30's for the temps. Pretty cold sleep but the morning was beautiful! Started again on the AZT but finally got tired of that rock and rubble infested rut called a trail. Started navigating with the GPS on forest roads and my butt and body were much happier. Happened upon a paved road and went to the Morman lake lodge and had a meal and took pictures of all the dead animals on the wall!
Now I am in a touring mode. Staying in the outskirts of Flag tonight and then over Mount Humphrey towards the South Rim. I was going to hike my bike through the canyon but that makes picking me up harder, so I will just do a few hour hike down into the canyon and then off to home. I didn't want to quit riding my bike and camping out but I did want the pain to stop!! No way was I in the mood for the hike up to the Mongillon Plateau!!
Sheila is amazing that she is forging on.
Taking lots of pictures and meeting lots of nice people on the way.
Go racers!!!

Never can be sure from just Spot dots, and Max’s is not updating right now—batteries, strategy or he may have just mispacked it so as not to point to the sky, And I think Max may have just stopped twice, once near the upper camp ground and once on the N Rim. Anyway, I calc Max as about 5+ hours ahead and both Aaron & Blake. And they will need to re-group once they rim out. Unless Cjell in still in the mix with just smooth pave and a fast bit of downward rolling ST left (or unless Max has a major issue) I think we have a tight race for 2nd between Aaron & Blake……. Note: When you rim out you go from hot sweaty exhaustion to instant 50 deg mountain temps, especially in the evening, it is so easy to chill to the point of hypothermia., getting sorted quickly is key……. |

It was going to be my entertainment for the next week too!  I got tired of continuously riding the line between nausea and bonking, any time the trail requires significant effort (and when does it not?). I had an amazing night under a huge moon riding the Cienegas on through Colossal Cave and the Hope Camp stuff (new to me), so it was not all a loss. Failure isn't about falling down, failure is staying down. 750, I'll be back! |

sorry to see you have to give up after such a strong ride yesterday. I was blown away when I saw how far you had gotten then morning. nausea is not a fun thing to deal with. seems like I have to deal with it more times than not and it makes it impossible to make good time and stay hydrated. you'll get it next time. |

Congrats and Kudos to all the racers. I've been following this since the start. With all the stomach issues, why doesn't anyone keep a couple Cypro or Doxcy tabs in their stuff? or do you and it isn't working?
