Eric,
Way to go Man. Heroic determination. Way to stick in there. You may be one of the youngest finishers of the 750 to date and displayed the heart of a lion like the other finishers. You represent Flagstaff well. Good job man. I followed your blue dot and was familiar with sections of trail you followed. Once you get a few days rest lets celebrate. Dinner is on me. Good job!!!! Sleep and eat well.

It looks like Sheila got into Flagstaff around 3 am and is moving again as of about 20 minutes ago.

Forest Baker here checking in...
Finished the 750 at 10pm last night. In summation, ouch! Body and bike barely survived.
Day1: broke a pedal on the rocks in canelo. Very annoying to only be able to clip in on one side. Day2: ran out of water climbing Lemon. (Wish we had the cold weather like last year). Fred witnessed my relief at reaching Palisades. Day3: stans failed to plug a hole. Put in my slime tube. Pinch flatted that in the dark on the way to freeman cache. Put in my last tube (no slime) and rode all of the way to Apache Jnct with only one flat. Freaked out by all the thorny things in theto trail the whole time though. Day4: waited 5 hours in kelvin for the heat of the day to pass before climbing to picket post. Totally shelled when I got to Superior after 2am. Slept in the city park with Eric. Day5: went way off route in Apache Jnct to get a ton of stuff fixed on my bike. Got a motel room for 4 hours to clean up. Day6: finally a break from the rough trail. Flew to Pine with the intention of going into the night, but felt sick and called it early. Day7: totally underestimated time/effort required to reach Mormon Lake. Totally out of food, so racked up 16 more off-route bonus miles with Eric to resupply. Day8: exhaustion was setting in. Limped into Flagstaff feeling very cold. Day9: my body was over this and it took forever to make much distance. Called it quits early and told myself I'd just switch to touring the remainder of the route if that's all I could do. Day10: the novelty of hiking the canyon gave me some energy, so I pushed through without sleeping in 17 hours. My legs, however were not happy and were completely swollen. I've never had this happen to me before. Day11: fought headwinds, lack of sleep, and pain in right quad to reach Jacob's lake. I thought the last stretch to the border would be a piece of cake. However, I had no front brake and had to walk a lot of the last 10 miles because my right quad called it quits on me.
So happy to be done. It really tested my limits.
Thanks to Scott and Tim for making this happen. It was great to meet and ride with so many wonderful people.
Huge thanks to Dave and Linda H. They provided unbelievable support to getting me to the start. Love you guys.
GO MARK AND SHEILA!!!!

Way to go Forest!! Nicely done....
Looks like Mark C is sitting on the S Rim arranging his stuff. I know he was working on a side sling arrangement--will be interesting to see how he makes out. Timing is nice if he has the energy to get to Cottonwood CG in the cooler dark
Go Mark

That's still the plan, but this ride did not exactly build my confidence. Looking forward to the TD where it's a lot easier to stay on the bike. Did you end up in the hospital? I haven't caught up on the discussion thread yet, but ran into a guy named Aaron outside of flagstaff who said you ran into a cactus.

Hey Guys. I haven't formally introduced myself. I'm Steve, Sheila's husband. I just talked to Sheila. OK...new plan! Sheila bonked (my word not hers) 12 miles outside of Flagstaff. Her words: "I had nothin' out there." So, she is back to town, in hotel with a Denny's next door. She said she was gonna try again in the morning. I told her if she wants to finish not to worry about the time, she's got 2 extra days if she needs them...and frankly unlimited days as far as I'm concerned. Positive energy directed to Sheila. Mantra: I will finish this stupid thing. Sheila's Quote of the day: "Why do they make a bike race on single track that no bike can be ridden on." She really wanted to finish on Friday. I told her at this point not to worry about the time. She needs rest and recovery...then HIT IT HARD and finish. Also, I'm meeting her at the finish with OREO's and MILK...and flowers and balloons and hand made signs and lot's of food. I'll bring my camping gear.

Don't worry about the time. That's not what this is about. Conquer the beast! rest up and finish this! You can do it!!!!! -Les Handy

Glad to hear that Forest, you looked great and did an outstanding job. I ended up "at" the ER, not "in" it. The look on the Doctors face when I asked if it was a good idea to continue on in the race was priceless. Way too many needles in my ass to make riding another 600 miles much fun.

Mark had been struggling with a couple of flat tires this afternoon. I spoke to him while he was in Tusayan loading up on food and right after he fixed his flat...said he was feeling pretty well but said his body was not at all liking the heat of the desert today...

Really sorry to hear that. At least it is something you can recover from. I crashed so many time. Hugging a cactus could have easily happened to any of us. Looking forward to seeing you at your inaugural CSTR.

Hey Guys. I haven't formally introduced myself. I'm Steve, Sheila's husband.
Steve, you have an amazing wife. She camped with me and my friends and got a ride to the border with us. She is extremely gracious, warm, and her friendly smile throws you off - you would have no idea what a lion she is on the bike. Beyond the flowers and such, I'd bring a bottle of tequila. Even if she doesn't drink, I bet she'll be ready for one when she finishes this thing.
