...Sounds like Bathtub spring is a good one. Confused tho you say it is difficult to find, and easy to find in the dark. Did you mean to say it's not difficult to find?...Tim
I interrupted it as Bathtub was difficult to find without a Waypoint marked, but with a waypoint marked it is easy to find, even in the dark.

Tim and Scott,
Thanks for the clarification, very helpful. I hope not to use it and find this bathtub spring.
Chip sorry to hear about your the knee injury! you did a steller job thru the 300. Any chance you marked a waypoint at the bathtub spring?
I'm getting super excited/nervous. I'm heading out on the 17th from Crested Butte probably stay with a friend in Tucson on the 18th. Can't wait to meet all you guys on the 19th!

Water question. I see some say a filter is not nessasary? I was planning to bring one but now second guessing it. Just use tablets? But the real question is when to use? I have never had it use springs or windmills. If it is not from a stor, use tabs? Sorry for all the FNG questions.... Trying to soak up as much info as possible

Looks like as of now I will be making it to the group start on the 19th. I can get a ride down to Tucson, but I currently don't have a for sure ride to the border. Is there anyone that has space in a vehicle heading down for the 750 start Thursday afternoon or Friday morning?

Foster;
What time are you talking about getting to Tucson? I might be able to squeeze time off and lend a helping hand. Let me know.

I think I could get to Tucson by 3 in the afternoon, possibly earlier. But I have to talk to my friend that is giving me a ride to Tucson. It is up in the air on whether he can drive me all the way.

Cool, here is my email. ewf6@nau.edu just send me something so that I have yours. I think camping at the border would be the best that way I don't have to wake up super early. But it really doesn't matter as long as I get to the start in time.

Here is the best location description I could find for Bathtub Spring: http://www.fredgaudetphotography.com/aztrail/watercurrent.pdfIt is the site 17.2 miles past Freeman cache. It isn't called Bathtub Spring in the water report but some hikers told me that was the name. It is in a section where the trail is going back and forth across a wash with a sandy bottom. The trough will be to your left and somewhat upstream of where you can see through the brush into the wash. I don't remember seeing it from the trail. The hikers I met were camped next to the trough and pointed it out to me.

Chip, So if not an exact way point if someone cuts the track near the cache, not right where the trail crosses Freeman but about .4 farther where the trail turns north away from Freeman. Then measure out 17.2 and place a way point. Will that get people close enough to find it?
If someone want's to make way points for all of the water sources while their out there that would be fine. But I doubt Scott will add it to the race site. And who is going to be willing to help other racers it is a race after all.
I do see Mountain View Tank about .3 west of the trail 12 miles north of Tiger Mine TH.

Yeah a minimum of 2 tubes with some kind of sealant in them.

There is a tank with a float valve which is about 17.5 miles past Freeman. It had water in March in a metal tank and in April the tank was replaced with a plastic tank. It is pretty easy to find, while I never did find 'bathtub,' though I also did not look very hard.

I will plan on 2 tubes with sealant in them. Running tubeless around here I have great luck with cholla. I would put our cholla up against yours. On many rides it is flying off the tires! I also left a shifter cable and brake cable out of the mix but I plan on bringing one of each and I do have a pump on the frame. Thanks for the feedback! Right now I am leaving my showers pass jacket with hood out of my kit. Do you think I will regret that? Also plan on a knit cap too.

No Death March is Saturday April 13th, but I won't be riding it this year! Are you fiddling around with something else that day??

Good to see some bike porn up. I'll toss my setup in the ring. My setup: Anthem 29er w/130mm lefty reduced down to 110mm. Stove, fuel and Ti cup Sleeping: Homemade bivy, 6 oz. Mountain Hardware Mountain Speed 32 bag Down jacket Wool tights Underwear, yes... 750 miles is a long time to keep the boys all wadded up so I'm splurging on some undies. Wool cap Gloves Food: About 8000 calories to start with. I'm a diet controlled(barely) type 2 diabetic(at 145 pounds ) so fueling at a 7 Eleven or McDonalds is problematic, not impossible, but problematic. Will still need to add to this, but this will take care of my dinner and breakfast for the first few 3-4 days. Katadyn water filter. Too much stuff going on in my life to risk some sort of microbe during, or especially after the race. Lights on the bike. 2nd pair of shorts and socks on the bike. Tools on the bike. Spare parts and pads on the bike. 3 spare tubes with Stans on the bike. 60csx on the bike. Likely add the gas tank as well. Good place to hold the camera and a little finger food. Straps for my canyon trek. This is the biggest deal for me. After getting my setup dialed in with everything on my back and doing some hiking here at home I decided that my shoulders( 5th surgery 11 weeks ago) just wouldn't take that weight for that long. I'm going with Tims "bike purse" method and hoping for the best. It is the easiest on my shoulders but not the fastest walking setup. I'm a contractor so walking a lot is part of my job, I'm hoping that will come into play at some point. Pretty much everything I will have on the bike come race day except a change of tires, 2.4 exo Ardent and a 2.1 exo Ignitor and it sits at 35.4 pounds. Talon 22 is pretty much empty save for all the personal care stuff and batteries, got a windbreaker and some arm and leg warmers in there as well. I'll be wearing coolers and will just switch as needed. Hoping the bike and more importantly the body hold up to the beating. Looking forward to getting the logistics out of the way and starting this damn thing!
