That's what I like to hear! Crested butte just got its second 12 inch storm in the past week! It's making it mighty difficult to get ready for this thing!

Cjell didn't let that slow down his training

I know, but this year was so similar to last I figured I would have more saddle time!

If I make it to the end of the 750 how does someone get there to pick me up? It looks like all dirt roads around there.

Best way from Vegas?

Best way from Flagstaff?

Gracias!

My plan is that there is no plan!

I may ride to Page and try my luck hitchin' back to Denver, if not only Durango. If I feel sprightly, I may, "C-Money" it to Durango (tis only 260 miles on boring featureless desert highway - pishaw!), or farther - who knows. The most attractive HW to my AZTR rookie mind that works for me is the one outta Page, to the Four Corners, and then into SW CO.

If anyone is in Durango that wants a co-pilot to Denver (or Summit - or anywhere on the i-70 corridor where I can pick up a Greyhound), I'm yer man. Happy to split out gas and pick up a dinner or something! I'm hoping for ~10 day finish, but let's not let me get ahead of myself. Need to be in Denver by the 4th of May as my ridiculous band is playing a block party!

I think House Rock Road off of Highway 89A is the way to get there. I guess around 20 miles of dirt road to get to the Utah border.

Your ridiculous band is playing a block party?  That's the best reason I've ever heard for finishing the AZT up fast.  Awesome.  Go swiftly!

Rich, here are directions to the stateline TH:

http://www.blm.gov/wo/st/en/res/Education_in_BLM/Learning_Landscapes/For_Travelers/go/adventures/arizona_trail_-_northern.html

I remember it being less than 9 miles of dirt.  Regardless you can't miss the TH as you stay on the main road.

To Get to Flag I would say go south on House Rock to 89a then east past several small resorts with food to Lee's Ferry. At Lee's there is a C-store with laundry and showers. From there I bet you could hitch to Flag.

For Vegas or Page go north to 89 and then east or west. Kanab will have most everything you could need. On the way to Page you can get water at the BLM office and then you'll pass a small town with C-store called Big Water.

The State line TH is in the middle of no where. But there are usually a lot of people around especially up at the Wave TH.

Hey gang, Just checking to see if anyone is driving through Flagstaff with in the next couple days. I am currently in Cortez, CO making my way down towards Flagstaff and would appreciate a ride to the race start or Tucson if anyone has extra room. I'll be on the bike most of the day turning my phone on intermittently. 5Zero7481Seven102 Leave a call back number if you have any leads on a ride.

When I went through northern Arizona a month ago a landslide had just closed Highway US89.  This the main connector from Page to points north and northeast.  If you coming down from the north or northwest use 89A and let anyone who picks you up at the finish tthat they need to work around the closed section of 89.  Here is the latest on the detour and when they might get the road fixed:

Sucks for Cjell.  There are 60 mph headwinds on the reservation today.  Its gonna be a couple hard days of riding to Flagstaff with all this wind.

He hitched to flag, said there was a massive dust storm on the reservation.

I've been working on my resupply points and I haven't found anything on Google between Pine and Flagstaff. That's a 104-mile stretch with over 15k of climbing.

Am I missing some resupply (food/drinks) opportunity or is that just a really long stretch that requires carrying a lot of calories?

Thanks for any info,

Forest

Wait, I just found a general store at Mormon Lake Lodge (34.911418, -111.467331).

Any other resupply points before then?

As far as I know only Mormon Lake, --& small store there has limited hrs.
I skipped it and blew into Flag on empty so can’t add much except that:
it’s pretty fast from Mormon Lake to Flag even for slow guys like me and Flag has many 24 hr options so timing into Flag for re-supply is a non-issue

Thanks Marshal!

Please remind me, how long did it take you to get from Pine to the top of Mongollon Rim? I know that this section is supposed to be a real bear.
