The race starts tomorrow morning, April 3rd.  750ers off at 7am followed by the 300 at 9am.

We have Elliot Dumont on course as an ITT in the 300 already.

Tracker is here:

http://trackleaders.com/aztr15

This is the 10th year of the AZT 300!!!  And we have a lunar eclipse / blood moon on Saturday night.

So excite!!  I will be back to fill in more details tomorrow after returning from Parker Lake.

Until then, discuss.  Who will win?  Who's gunna crack?

Jeffrey Tomassetti doesn't crack.  As long as body or bike do not break in some complete and insurmountable way, he will finish.  Go Jeff!

I read Montana Miller's blog and he was going to ride his bike to the start.  I believe he lives in Colorado, so that's pretty boss.  That being said, anyone willing to carry their bike across the Grand Canyon is pretty badass though.  My homeboy Dylan Taylor is riding/hiking and he's who I'm rooting for.

Katherine Wallace, 2012 TD 12th place. Don't sell her short. (edit) I see KW is in for the 750

Did Kurt really just make it to Patagonia in ~4 hours?  That is blazing, blazing fast.  He might have been under 4.  He's got quite a few right on his tail, so everyone seems to be running fast.

The 300 went off at 9am sharp, with 40+ starters plus a few folks that jumped the gun.  All time new record for the 750 with 25 starters (!).  All of them had rolled through before the start of the 300 except longtime vet Mark Caminiti, who was struggling with tire issues.  There were two crashes, already, in the 750.  Montana Miller patched himself up and hit the trail with the 300 group.

Apparently five border crossers were apprehended at the 750 start location last night, making for an interesting night for those camped there (!).

Those are just a few of the stories for this year's AZT.  More are being formed as we speak...

Weather is primo -- warm with a merciful layer of high clouds that should be cutting the heat significantly.  It's a fine day for a big bike ride in So. Az, and an even finer night that promises warm temps, a full moon and a lunar eclipse!  I think this is the best year ever for wildflowers and cactus blooms on the trail -- a rare overlap of both types of desert color at once.

Photos from Eszter to come shortly!

Kurt has added wings to his helmet for added lift, Alexis Ault won't be mistaken for a deer by hunters, Kurt takes the hole shot, the conga line into the Canelos, the peanut gallery watches the riders in the distance before deciding it was too hot to stand around in the sun

Our ITTer Elliot Dumont has scratched -- not enough sleep leading into the race.

Arizona Trail Race ’15 – Michael Ackerman called in from Patagonia! He’s had a crash and apparently may need stitches so he’s looking to get patched up and continue!

Thanks for the calls, Joe!  Hope Dejay has some time to come up with some jokes this year.

"The Rookie" would be Garrett Alexander from Durango.  Sounds like he had a flat and is working to regain contact with the leaders.

On the women's side we had Kaitlyn Boyle charging hard out the gates, but it seems like she had some kind of issue (flat?) just outside Patagonia.  You can see it on the raceflow graph -- a bit flat line of ~45 min or so, followed by another stop in Patagonia.  It was enough for Alice to pass her back, and Alexis to catch her.  Hope it isn't anything too serious for her.

We have a really fast race and a great group this year.  This is going to be a GOOD one.

Arizona Trail Race ’15 – Jason Hanson called in from Sonoita. Michael Ackerman called in from a clinic in Sonoita where he got patched up and is ready to roll! And John Fairbairn called in from Patagonia after a couple of mechanicals!

http://mtbcast.com/site2/category/calls/

Nasty pic from Michael Ackerman of his injury. It's kinda deep. Sounds like he got patched up pretty good there at the clinic.

Montana Miller is out due to his crash. Can't grip the bars.

Kurt is out front with a big lead... but there is a large and enthusiastic group of chasers setting a solid pace behind.

Kaitlyn is gaining on Alice after recovering from a sliked sidewall just out of Patagonia.  Alexis was having stomach woes into Sonoma but after a rest she's moving steady again!
