Light Blue is the 750 Dark Blue is the 300 Purple for Women Yellow for ITT |

it think the translucent is that the spot has not updated for a while. The solid have current updates. |

Looks like Garrett is still going... maybe he is not "The Rookie" ? Got a call from him which I'll post shortly. Sometimes it's hard to interpret "out." In his previous call he said he "bit off more than he could chew" and finished with "I'm out." In the call, he may very well have just changed his mind but he is continuing on! |

Her dot is easily found by showing only the women riders. Near tante verde on the east edge of Tucson.

That's right. The dots fade if they are more than 30 minutes old. On the right sidebar there is a legend that details all the colors. |

So glad I went down to the start Thurs evening, PCL was loaded with riders camping out. I shuttled a couple of hiking friends down to Montezuma Pass, then barely made it back to PCL for the 300 start! Scott Jones was there already and itching to show me the Staples 'Easy' button had made a triumphant return!! Go Scott!
We ended up hiking Passage 1 of the AZT afterwards. Grueling, to say the least. We then drove up Redington rd and made camp near the AZT crossing. Broke out the charcoal grill...at 1am, just as Kurt's light appeared!! He crossed Redington rd around 2am and seemed relaxed, as he always does!! Off he went and we finally crashed out at 3am.
I want to give a shout out to Ray Hemmele, who called it an early night last night due to neck pain. He was about to throw in the towel, but his distress call to me didn't go through!! He straightened some things out, got back on the horse and is currently making his way across Oracle Ridge on the tail end of an 18 hour day!! That's some determination!! This will be your year Ray, get it!!!!

Nice, John. Pushing the endurance and sleep dep envelope despite not being able to race the AZT. There was much discussion of Ray at PMC -- Ray: persevere!
Ben Thornton is out, as is Ryan Motsue.
I just checked Kurt's splits from last year.... 1:13 and change at the Gila River. He might be right at record pace, but I don't think he is exceeding it.
The peloton has been riding strong behind ... they are looking good for many 2 days and change finishes -- Tucson boy Neil S, Denberg (who still has barely rested ... 750!), Durango Joey (all claims about being out-of-shape have been invalidated), Boatman, Darren Smith and 'the' Dejay, JayP and Hunter.
Then we have early ITT Ray on Oracle Ridge, followed by the women's leader, Kaitlyn who is at least a couple hours behind record pace but certainly still in striking distance of Eszter's time. She may skip Oracle, having carried all her food, which would be a big time boost.
Alexis suffered an oil-spewing rear shock, but is still rocking it, climbing Lemmon in 2nd place.
Our Red Lantern, John Fairborn, seems mighty upbeat despite his many struggles -- go check out his call-ins on MTBCast. Love it when someone can keep a positive attitude despite bringing up the year.
Night two is a tough one. The body reaaaaally wants a good chunk of sleep, no matter who you are. We'll see how it goes for everyone!

i also want to mention that today I was shuttling my passage 1 compadres over to the Alta Loma trailhead (where the AZT detours into the Tucson portion) and we were mostly driving 'on route'. We had our phones on Trackleaders to see who was nearby. Mark's buddy, Josiah, was resupplying at Safeway along with Dylan Taylor & Robert Orr, so we had to go heckle him a bit. Dude really needs to lather up on the sunscreen!!
We then crossed paths with Alexis - cheery as always, even when tuckered out. She was with Adam M. and his super slick handlebar mounted cue sheet. He was in good spirits in spite of a non-functioning GPS!! Good thing he had cue sheets as backup.
We spotted at least 5 other riders, but I'm not sure who they all were. Fairly positive Rick Miller and Alice Drobna were exiting Alta Loma as we pulled in.
Kurt seems to be a few hours behind last year's pacing. I recall Arturo seeing him on our Boulders ride near the Ripsey Ranch last year around 5pm with Neil B & Aaron G hot on his heals. Still, a mighty impressive ride and possibly back-to-back sub 48 hour times??

I'm following Rick Miller's ride closely and he appears to be having an excellent start. Both his campsites have been a good bit furthur down the trail from his 300-ride last year and now "cruising" down to Oracle early on day 3. Good luck Rick and exciting start!  |

Dejay Birtch scratched last night -- he 'got sloppy' coming off Oracle Ridge and tweaked his wrist and shoulder.
Carlos Resto is another scratch -- he started with a cold.
Matthew Brunson is also out.
Overall, it's been a very low scratch rate so far. Solid crew of riders. I would guess we had at least double or triple the number of scratches by this time last year.
The power duo of Kurt and Kaitlyn are having great rides, but both falling a few hours short of record pace at this point. There's not enough time for Kurt to make anything up. He'll finish sometime over 48 hours, for probably the 3rd fastest 300 time ever.
Kaitlyn still has some trail left to turn on the afterburners, but she needs to stay focused. Knowing the time to beat, of course, is a huge advantage, but it's going to be close.
