Yep followed the AZT just not the right AZT, I can see how that would be an easy mistake to make.
Yes go Cassi, and Rich Wolf still's still in. John Fairbairn is on the highway though.

Out of curiosity (and maybe to have a little history lesson) how did permission to portage through the Grand Canyon happen? My guess is that the Arizona Trail Association had something to do with it, but I also think that Mr. Scott also had a pretty big hand as well.

I think it was just a stray point. He looks good. Out of curiosity (and maybe to have a little history lesson) how did permission to portage through the Grand Canyon happen? My guess is that the Arizona Trail Association had something to do with it, but I also think that Mr. Scott also had a pretty big hand as well.
I suppose it was never specifically prohibited, but Lee Blackwell and I did manage to secure permission from high ranking officials in the park, for the first legal bike crossing of the canyon in 2005. It took some doing, but luckily Lee knew a well-respected ranger at the time. That helped a lot. That's where the "wheels cannot touch the ground" came from.

Aaron Denberg appears to be heading back to Flagstaff after taking a rest below Snowbowl. He went briefly forward on the AZT, and is now going backwards. Hope everything is OK.

Is it possible he lost his Spot? It doesn't seem to be moving at all; still in the area of Alfa Fia Tank. Gary

Last of the 750 riders is just about to finish the 300 section.
No idea what's going on with AD as he travels backwards.
JP is approaching the big hole in the ground!

Arizona Trail Race ’15 – Aaron Denberg called in from near Snowbowl. He’s heading back to Flagstaff for food! And Norb DeKerchove called in from Tonko Basin where he’s battling food poisoning! http://mtbcast.com/site2/category/calls/

Hello all, Somewhere just before Picket Post today my phone ejected on the trail. I see Rich Wolf was not far behind me. Is anyone in contact with Rich to ask him if he saw the phone on the trail perhaps? Thanks.
J
P.s.-yeah, my wrong turn and resultant double climb up Gonzales pass wasn't fun. I gues that's what happens when you've been on the bike for 40 hours with about 2 hours rest. The queue simply says town is uphill, so I went uphill. D'oh.

So, I left Flag around 1 a.m. this morning, but my legs are swollen and I absolutely can't push the petals very hard. It took me about 9 hours to get to Snobowl instead of the 3 or so I was expecting. I did not bring enough food today for this kind of pace, last year I made it from flag to tusayan in about 12 hours. My phone is broken, so I walked up to Snobowl to see if the restaurant was open, but it is only open on the weekends. Debated awhile about trying to push on, but really don't want to bonk on the Kaibab. Rolled back to Flag for some more rest and food. Will leave again in the a.m. Looks like I will have to push hard if I want a chance at second place. Mostly having a great time and not really suffering until the last 15 miles into Flag. Greatly looking forward to some downtime. This is why leaving your vehicle at the border is so effective. I basically have to finish if I want to be able to drive home. Thanks again to Scott Morris for organizing this informal group ride of friends. Everybody out there riding this trail has my utmost respect--keep on trucking!

SlowRide: I spoke with Rick Wolf a few minutes ago, sounds like he has your phone! He's in Superior now, give him a call: (7six0)-7six5-15nine8. Rich sounded fairly tired, was hoping for a room in Superior, but it sounds like none are available. He's pushing on. Go Rich!!!
