AZTR 300 and 750 Shuttle planning

A fresh start post up here to coordinate logistics.

In the past there have been riders bringing mini vans down and I have gotten them back to Tucson. It's possible to get 4 riders and bikes along with a driver in one, I should be able to do this again this year.

Will there be rides from Superior down to Tucson??

In the past there has always been at least one of the riders who got a ride down to Parker but bails out in Tucson. That person has always gotten the van up to the finish. I'll get it back to Tucson.

First come first serve on my driving your shuttle rig. Preferably a van of some kind so we can help get others to the start.

Also for the last two years Brad Kee has worked out a shuttle from Sierra Vista with the LBS guy. This works best for the 750 racers but last year he did it even for the 300.

Yes the 750 start is 2.5 hours earlier and adds about 14 miles mostly all road riding.

Technically its an ITT so you can start when ever, but there has always been a line up shot of most of the riders at 9 am at Parker Lake.

Last year there were a few who started earlier its your call. Most people hang out for the line up shot. There is now a no camping section the first night, I'll start a new post with details.

Hey guys, I'm new to this and am planning to ride the 300 this year.  The plan was/is to drive from my home base in Denver down to Superior and catch a shuttle. 

So question is, any room for a rookie (happy to pitch in on gas) on the shuttle?  If so, how do I get on the official list?  Also, sounds like it might be leaving out from somewhere other than Superior?

David - If you want to have your car at the finish line you'll likely need to work out a ride to Tucson the day before.

Maybe someone coming down can pick you up in exchange for a ride back to Tucson after.

Hey David if you are looking to split gas on the trip from Denver to Superior (or ?) I am looking for a ride down from Colorado. I am in Idaho Springs and looking to ride to 750 for the second time. PM me and we can work out the details.

Forgot in last post--if can't catch a ride from up around these parts would be looking to hitchhike a ride with my bike from Tucson or Phoenix the day before the race and eat a flight price but prefer long distnace ride share for anyone coming from CO or NM perhaps.

I'm thinking about doing the AZT 750 this year as a, "get my feet wet" for the rest of the year (and may take you up on your challenge, David!) and my birthday falls plum in the middle of the race, so great present to me!

I, too am in Colorado and am in need of a ride. There's a potential that I have already a ride in the form of an RV that could also potentially leave out from Denver and have room for a few more passengers/bikes, in exchange for some gas money. We're working on seeing if there's enough interest and the driver has enough vacay time to take off to take us all there. If it starts on Friday, that's 3 days for the driver to take off.

Considering it's a 80's RV, capable of about 55mph @ 10 miles/gallon, how long you think it would take us to get to the start? 2 days non-stop?

I have absolutely no idea how to get back to Denver afterwards - there doesn't seem to be much in terms of civilizations between Arizona/Utah - think I may just plan to be stranded for a few days - and hoping there's others that wanted to do the 750 finishing!

I have been e mailing with Jill (from Durango) who is up for a shuttle as well and I think another post from Idaho Springs is well so we meet in Denver that works fine for me from Fort Fun. On the way back I am guesstimating an 8-9 day finish (weather depending) given Kurt's record was in a snow year and he is what like 20 years younger than me. From Kanab there are a couple options---the dog to Denver or if my wife is not running an ultra somewhere she may come down--we have two racks on our sub so that is possible if we finish a day or so of each other. Who knows what the spring will bring since it is such a later winter start--snowing now (finally) but warm again later in the week.

Any other takers on my challenge out there? It is just around 4000 miles of mountain biking--beats the hell out of work.

Nope there's very little in terms of civilization at the finish line, there is how ever a very popular hiking area just north of there. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wave,_Arizona the parking lot is not that far north of the State line and it's always pretty full. And a lot of the people who hike it spend at least one night camped out at the State line trail head/campground.
