The time has come, after a 2 1/2 year hiatus an AZTR Grand Depart is upon us!! Hooray!! Register here: AZTR Fall 2021 Grand DepartPlease note the change to the 300 start, as I had to move it back to Parker Canyon Lake one last time. 7a departure, same as the 800 on Oct. 28th. **Be sure you have the latest GPX track for each distance: AZTR GPX files here they were published: 9.21.21 Deadline for SPOT rentals from Trackleaders is Tuesday, October 19th. Don't delay!! A lot of AZTR questions can be answered here: AZTR FAQI ask everyone who intends to toe the line to become a member of the ATA (Arizona Trail Association), The AZT is a special place, bikes are welcome and the trail needs our help after the recent wildfires. Besides, who doesn't want good trail karma??

Let's get some AZTR chatter going, Garrett has been out on the 800 route since Wed. He took a motel night in Kearny last night and is back on route as the sun comes up today. Should be a nice day along the Gila. Follow the dots here: http://trackleaders.com/aztrfall21Looking forward to sending everyone north on Thursday morning. It's been a long time coming, almost 2 1/2 years since the last Grand Depart. Lots of changes to the route since 2019. Let's hope the snow holds off up north and the riders get to experience the full AZT all the way to Stateline...including a gap jump at the finish?? Hopefully, AZTtripper will post some of those pics!!

Yeah Garrett is plugging away. I'm curious on how that section from Kelvin to to the turn up from the Gila is looking... He is gonna run into more of a vegetation mess at some point though. Not sure where it starts as I didn't get that far, but 6-7 miles of that 10 mile descent to Picketpost were very overgrown. Nothing he hasn't experienced to this point though. Good news is there will be some more open riding and less vegetation after that. Well until boulder creek

Boulder Creek shouldn't be too bad, the ATA had a crew up there for an entire week trimming and doing tread repair. The section I rode was probably better than some of the stuff he's been on already. Not sure about the stuff on the west side of 87 by Sunflower, but at least Goldridge is clear.

Some really nice temps are going to be on tap the next couple of days for him to tackle the four peaks climb and to get up to Goldridge and beyond

Looking closer I found that people are cutting left by the gazebo and bypassing the 2ash out. Not having much luck posting pics from the phone.

Any word on Miron? In the other thread Scott mentioned he was targeting 48 hours... hopefully everything is ok with him.

I believe he's scratching since he wasn't on a 48 hour pace.

Why did Garrett turn around last night? Is there a burn area he didn't want to camp in?

It's a bummer that Travis Radevski had to scratch late last week. Looked like he started out great. Hope all is OK.
