I'm super stoked . We have the air tickets booked. I’m planning to/from route travel logistics and had a few questions: 1. Will the start and end point be in Story? We’re having some challenges with transport from Casper and back. - Bus: There is a bus from Casper to Buffalo (and back). But it’s one run per day. - Car rental: I was thinking of a one-way car rental but it looks like the only way would be Casper to Sheridan (and back) 2. Do you have any suggested ways to get to and from the route from Casper?

I know the track starts and ends in story, but since its a loop it doesnt really matter.

Hey Aaron. The track on Ride with GPS appears to have an error. It looks like you doubleback around miles 68-90. What would you estimate your completion time to be for this route? Assuming a race effort with 4-5 hrs sleep daily?

Yes the route mistakenly doubles back but it stays on the exact same track so it won't be an issue when navigating with gps, it just makes it look like the route is 15 miles longer than it actually is. I think a Jefe Branham, Kurt Refsnider, Chris Plesko, Jesse Jakomait, Neil Beltchenko type mutant rider can probably finish in about 2.5 days. A bit longer for the rest of us!

Spot signup is up at: https://form.jotform.com/trackleaders/bighorn19If you are renting a SPOT, please make sure to register a couple of weeks in advance to make sure the SPOT devices have time to be shipped to Wyoming. smorris@topofusion is going to help me snip out the duplicated section.

Okay, Scott Morris fixed the track so it now starts and ends in Buffalo (at city park): .gpx: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/30848098

I might be able to make a run from Casper to Buffalo the evening of the 5th if you can help out with gas/beer money since i’m sidelined this year. Anyone else flying into Casper?

Darn! We just booked a rental car. Turns out we couldn’t rely on any transport so we rented it the entire time.

In. Excited to see this course! Work/travel logistics necessitate an ITT and my plan is a Wednesday start.

Attached to this message are waypoints I created. I am not sure how accurate they are, they are just based on google maps and aerial images, so use at your own risk, but they should be helpful.
Gregg and I get in on Thursday and we are on a tight time schedule too. If there are other riders planning on starting on Friday morning in Buffalo, then we are going to start on Thursday afternoon where the route crosses Red Grade Road and do +/-40 miles on Thursday and then start with the group in Buffalo on Friday morning. Or, if there are no other riders starting on Friday morning, we will probably just start from Buffalo on Thursday afternoon.
Is there any recommendation regarding carrying bear spray on this route? Good idea or overkill? Also I assume hanging your food from a tree is a good idea?
I am expecting a challenging and beautiful course. Getting stoked to explore some new terrain!

Bear spray is probably definitely overkill. Once upon a time there were big grizzlies here, but now only small black bears. I normally haven't hung my food in the bighorns, but at this time of year it might not be a bad idea.

Ugggh!!! Huge mistake on my part. I read the resupply at Shell as mile 100, not 150. Wtf, Jill? At mile 95, I met a cowboy and his horse heading up to check the cows I just rode through. When he clued me in to how far I was from Shell, I looked at my one ProBar and knew there was no way it was getting me 50 more miles. I blew off staying at Meadowlark til 8, completely stoked to resupply at Shell instead. Ummmm, yah no. On a separate note, best of luck to guys starting this am!

Just got back home. What an amazing course! First off, BIG THANKS to Aaron for stitching this amazing route together. It was obvious how much scouting work he put into this route My phone got destroyed in the rain, so I don't have any photos to share for now, but hopefully I will be able to recover the photos from my phone somehow. I will try and write a quick summary of our adventure soon. We really wanted to finish this course, but it just wasn't in the cards for us this year. To finish this course, your bike has to hold up, the weather has to behave, and the stars and the planets need to all align. We still had an excellent time out there and we were able to finish a more pavement heavy modified loop and make it to Buffalo yesterday around sunset without having to hitch a ride.
