Call for Submission for the Cordillera, Volume 2.

As most of you already know, the Cordillera is a not-for-profit Literature Review devoted to the sport of Divide Racing. This email makes it official... we have decided to publish a second volume because the first was such a great success and there are so many more stories from The Divide that need to be told.

In order to make the second edition a success we need your stories, features, poems, interviews, art, etc.

Here are a few suggestions and reminders:

1) Preference will be given to work not previously published.
2) Authors retain full copyright ownership of their work.
3) If you are a racer please don't feel limited to simple recitations of your race; we're not a cookbook! I much prefer wide ranging, deeply personal submissions over factual descriptions of the route.
4) If you are a fan please don't hesitate to submit something. Some of the best work from Volume 1 came from people who had never entered the TD or GDR. I'd love to get something from a spouse, friend or parent as well.
5) Be creative, be wide-ranging and courageous. The Cordillera is about the Divide more than any specific race experience. Send us anything from the heart!
6) The submission deadline is April 30th, 2011.
7) If you are unsure about an idea feel free to contact me. I can offer editing, suggestions and encouragement.

Last year's edition was a great success and raised over $600 for the Adventure Cycling Association. You can still purchase Volume 1 at Amazon and Lulu.com (links below):

This year sales of the Cordillera will benefit five year old Linnaea Blumenthal, daughter of Tour Divide racer Dave Blumenthal who lost his life during the 2010 Tour Divide. All profits from the sale of the Cordillera, Volume 2 will go toward Linnaea's college education. I learned a few marketing lessons with Volume 1 and truly believe that with your help Volume 2 can raise over $1,000 to help a fallen racer's daughter.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to emaill. I'm more than happy to help out.

Best,

Eric Bruntjen

Any chance the deadline could be pushed back to the end of the summer?  I'm sure you have a timeline in mind aleady, but a later date would allow this year's racers to compose some submissions, as well.  Just a thought...

I wish I could but most of our sales (and therefor the money we raise) comes before and during the TD and GDR so printed copies have to be available for sale in June.

In the meantime, if there are any 2011 racers who would like to submit something from their pre-race perspective to the next Cordillera please do so. One of our better pieces last year was from a racer-in-training.

Thanks

Eric

Got it.  I hadn't thought of the syn-Divide sales aspect, which makes perfect sense.  I'll see if I can come up with something creative for this edition.
