Hi Everyone,

I'm new here but look forward to participating. I started training for the above mentioned race in January of this year. Had a set back for a few weeks in February after getting bit by a dog while riding, but resumed my training today.

This will be my first race and I have found the advice here invaluable, and have been taking it to heart. For those who will be riding this race in October 2012, I look forward to meeting you. I'm sure I will have plenty of questions and seek advice from veterans of this ride before it comes to fruition.

The Gaul.

I am considering this race as well. Little bit of a haul from MT but looks like a good setup to me. And I have been through the area before and have an idea of the environment. It would be my first ultra.

Welcome guys.  After two attempts at thru-riding the Coco route this spring, I am looking forward to the stage version this fall.  It's always a good time.

Oh well, just bought my ticket from Alaska to Awesomeness once again, so I guess you can count me in.  Not sure whether I'll chill at night and do the stage race or if I press on and do an ITT through-race this year for a change.  headbang

Just finished up the CTR and getting syched for this one to start. The transition back to life after being on the CT is tough. I'll be in Flagstaff on the 12th ready to roll!!

NOOOOOOO!  Just saw the date change.  I've already got my plane tickets from VT for 10/2 - 10/11 for the original race date of 10/5 BangHead  My race plans for the CTR went to sh!+ three weeks before that race and I transferred my CO tix to AZ.  Damn, maybe a bikepacking race just isn't in the cards for me this year.

I looked at the website http://rockyroad5050.wordpress.com/5-coconino-250-and-350/ when I saw slhappy's post and sure enough, it's showing 10/12 date change.  This is new info within the last couple days.

Yep that's the official word then. Bummer Man you can always ITT of course but it's just not the same I am sure. Especially this one with the Stage Stop format, there's more of a group ride feel to it.

Oh, the new day works better on my calendar. Perhaps I'll join in this time around. But I sure haven't forgotten the pain that this loop induced this year...one utter failure in May and a second go at it three weeks ago when it still beat the heck outta me! So perhaps not...

Date change uncool.  3 people traveling from Alaska need to change vacation schedule, flight reservation, car reservation and hotel reservation.

For the stage race, it's generally 5-8+ hours of riding per day depending on your speed, and the rest of the time is spent at the stage stops (2 camping, 1 motel). You'll need clothing, a sleeping kit, and water/food carrying capacity to allow you to be comfortable for the remainder of the day and overnight at the stage stops, which could be chilly (lows around freezing are possible) in October.

Thanks for the info for some reason I was thinking it would be warm. Then I looked at the profile of the route. I will have to rethink what to bring.

I can't do the 12th either and had arranged everything for the 5th already.

Chad/Scott why the date change? Curious for the reason.

We had some conflicts here in AZ with some other races. It has always been the first week of October and I thought changing it might help. Turns out it did not help b/c of the out-of-towners.

Changed back. Oct 5.

Sorry about any confusion. Pleasing the masses in AZ first might not have been the best idea, especially when people are coming from out of town. Also, I love having dates fall on days where there are no other races (with the few amount of races we do have), hence the change.

OT:Had a great bikepack trip on the Mogollon Rim this week in case anyone wants to do something new Smiley

Agreed. I thought it might be early enough to change. I talked with Sharon about the change. The Fat Tire Festival in Phx and TOWM in Showlow are the two mountain bike related events that conflicted with the original date.

BTW, last year it snowed on us twice, so the weather could be cold. Being a native-AZ, it was a little unprepared for my sleeping on Day 2 on top of Mingus with the cold weather.
