Thanks Chad! The plan right now is to show up with a crew of ladies and ride the route with a lot of giggling along the way. Expect some estrogen in camp this year ;-)

Sadly, I am not able to make it this year to see the "estrogen" in camp...Wedding in Montana and GC hike the first two weekends of Oct. |

I'm out for sure if it's on the 5th. AZT Rendezvous at Mormon Lake that weekend...giving a presentation on biking the AZT and voicing support for some more bike-friendly singletrack wilderness detours. I'll make sure to mention that you guys and gals all went blasting through the area the day before after suffering through one of the more heinous sections of AZT.

What is the beta for camping in Williams, for the dudes that don't have any available money (or desire) to stay in a hotel. I would still would like to be included in the Stage, and leave from Williams. In the past I continued past Williams and camped on route.

Wait, wait, wait...I missed that crew of ladies. Do you want to time trial the weekend before when I am free?! Just to confirm, the Coconino 250 has now been moved back to the original start date of October 5th?
Confirmed. What is the beta for camping in Williams, for the dudes that don't have any available money (or desire) to stay in a hotel. I would still would like to be included in the Stage, and leave from Williams. In the past I continued past Williams and camped on route.
Roll through town and camp on the Forest Service Rd (on route) just outside of town. We might have to talk to you logistically on how we will record your score, ie give us your time that you got there later if you do not see anyone. |

Thanks, I was a bit confused why a guy from Littleton was coming down. Now that the hiker route is pretty much finished, except for all of the repairs mostly due to fire damage, it's time to start looking at an official bike route. Well actually talking with the new Exec. Dir., working out the best options to offer people. |

I'll be riding the route about a week and a half before you guys race it. Hopefully I can a conditions report up for you upon finishing.
Question for riders: I've got the GPS thing worked out, cue sheets are good to go, as backup what is anybody using for paper maps? Specific recommendations of which maps you like would be great!

I Specific recommendations of which maps you like would be great!
I pull up the map and the route on Topofusion, print it out and put it in a ziplok baggie. Cheap, light and you get the track printed on it. |

For those of you familiar with the route, what is the recommended water carrying capacity assuming seasonal weather conditions?

I'm pondering the use of a SPOT for this ride and wanted to get clarification as to the total cash outlay needed. It's my understanding that it would be the $99 annual service fee to SPOT, the rental fee (if needed) and Trackleaders fee. Is that correct? Thanks.

Spot rental from trackleaders is around 50 to 100 bucks and includes all you need other than the rescue service.

The water in Mingus Lake is thick and brown. It'd probably be fine if you let it settle overnight and then filtered it, but without doing so, it'd be worse than drinking water from the Colorado River. Either plan on riding down to Potato Patch CG or hauling your water up from Cottonwood. Once you start riding the following morning, it shouldn't take more than a couple hours to get to Coyote Spring. |
