I guess here are our list of options:
1. Start @ stage 2 friday morning. 2. Start from the place and divert on the muddy sections in stage 1. 3. Or start at a different date or time.
These seem to be the options that everyone have brought up.
Personally I like the start from the stage 2 section. Is there one option that the majority of us could possibly agree on? If we decided to start at stage 2 then carpooling might not be a bad idea. All meet up at the place sometime early friday morning and then head down to the start (45 min Drive). Stage one is going to be a complete mess, it would be nice to be able to ride it without diversions. So this stage 2 idea sounds pretty good.
What's everyone's take on this?

One quick thought...carpooling would only be good if we were all finishing at the same time, which won't happen. So individual cars would have to be taken I am guessing.

If folks DID decide to start in Sedona, rather than trying to start at the HotLoop area....no real place to leave vehicle etc I dont think, then maybe just start at the base of Schnebly road (which would make the final part of the 4 stager a lot of fun..down Munds back into glorious red rocks). Maybe link up for a quick bite/coffee at the starbucks up at the Hyatt (cant think of many other options in Sedona as the plentiful options of Flagstaff for b'fast). Not sure where to recommend people would park their cars...maybe reach out to some of the hotels to see if they could park over the wknd. FYI, jazz festival is this wknd, so it might be tight. As for us, we'd just need to know what the overall consensus is by around noon on Thurs. We're not even really in it for the race, but wouldnt mind pushing the pace a bit, and would like to stay at least semi-on-the-plan of the group. So, we can go either way...as originally planned or other...but we definitely want to do ALL the miles and want to start Fri morning. Thoughts? :-)

Scott, Is there a way with the vista hcx to display the tracks and waypoints? I've messed with all the map settings and I can view the tracks but not the waypoints?

Yeah parking would be an issue. I have no idea where a safe/good place to park a vehicle would be down there. Maybe someone does? I am all for the 7 am start on friday as well wherever it may be. It would be nice to get the majority of us to do the same start though.
So if the Sedona start doesn't work out would we do a diversion to avoid the mud on stage one or just tough it out?

Re Parking -- everything's safe -- it's Sedona. Just what's legal is the question. But i bet if ya called around to the hotels, they'd let ya do it, maybe for $5 or something. Also, the Safeway or Bashas parking lot are options worth looking into. Or, because the NF allows 14 days parking, ya might actually be able to leave vehicles up atop Schnebly somewhere and start from the original stage 1/Hotloop stop.
Or we're totally up for a Sedona start...w/a 7am linkup at the Starbucks up on the hill (Hyatt).
Will check back on line by noon tomorrow to make our final call. I guess the question is...where will the SPOTs be at 7am on Fri?
CHeers guys and see ya in a few days!

Stage 2 start makes sense, however I am up for whatever. Top of schnebly start would preserve the route, that being said there is a free parking lot in uptown Sedona(<5min from route)that always has space but I'm not sure about overnight parking. MattF

Are you sure the waypoints are there (that they got uploaded)? They should display by default unless you specifically go in and turn them off on this units settings. Do a 'find' for one of them and see if it shows up.

Pretty sure I left my car overnight at the free parking on the north side of town before. Sticking with the original stages does make some sense, but however it goes we'll try to represent it in the results. There's also the idea of going backwards, which makes some sense, though some of stage 4 could be wet too (some of the dirt roads). Stopping in Williams for a motel on the first night is kinda lame, but I think that's the only downside of reversing it... Mingus will sure be easier, esp. with the Yaeger change.

Try it again, and make sure you have the right file selected. Since the files are quite similar you might have tried to upload the track file's waypoints, of which it has none...

Hmmm....Sedona seems to be the major consensus. I could see myself parking at Schnebly/ADOT and bombing down to Sedona to the starbucks. Can we all start somewhere on the route near Sedona, begin riding and meet at Starbucks at 8am? Time would stop while after you leave Schnebly Rd and head up the 1/4 mile. I would have all the SPOTS with me and can hand them off then. If we do this, I might try to push through on Stage 3 to finish. My cell if you want to call 520.8dosdos.7323 Thoughts? Currently the sun is shining and the forecast calls for clearing after 12:00. If we get 24 hours of dryness I think reversing the course would work. New Az trail and wing might be a tad sloppy but rideable. Not sure of the soil on bill Williams mtn. Just a thought. I live .20 mile from Shultz trailhead, it's going to be really hard to pass up my bed on day 3. I know wah.wah wah.

But if you go in reverse you wont get the sweet downhill single track on the AZT from snowbowl. You'll have to go up!
Anyone else want to start with me at Schnebly Hill road overlook in the morning? Chad is that what you are doing?

i think either a schnebly hill overlook or starbucks start makes the most sense. either way, it would be nice to have a group start and the majority of people on the same page. it makes it difficult to track times if people are starting and stopping in different spots. either is fine for me, although my preference would be a sedona start, but i'll do either. just say the word. -- jen judge

I'm with doing a start with what everyone is willing to agree on. A group start is more fun!

Sounds like Starbucks Fri morning is the consensus yeah? This should be solid (only a 1/2 mile to the circle at Tlequepaque, where Schnebly road links to the Circle K, so really close to the original route. AND hot coffee to start the day...yaay! (And maybe even Flagstaff bunk/beers for the final night before the final day of fun high-elev riding :-)
Some questions:
--Can we keep the same start time -- 7am? --On the section between Schultz and Flagstaff (the original "start/end"), should we just link those up as "proposed" to finish on thru to the final segment, ending in Sedona (base of Schnebly road/circle...stop clock.) --Where all should we post the changes (whatever they may be), so that everybody knows? (Here, FB, MTBR,...??)
This is turning out to be solid and hopefully a fantastic wknd!!

Heading out for a ride right now in the rain, but I think 7am at Starbucks is the way to go. Tomorrow is a big day, so we need to get moving early. Mingus is a beast. We will stop the clock where we start.
I think everyone that is coming tomorrow is on this thread and/or has communicated with me.
Please post up here that you have read this message and are okay with it.
