Anyone interested in doing the 350-mile version in reverse on June 26th, 2010?

Want to get a feel for schedules before I set the date.

Oohh.. Lime Kiln is going to feel like.... being burned alive in a Lime Kiln?

We caught it during the June cool spell, and remember how hot it was?

That said, I can't see a reason why not to, and in reverse... well, all that sand will be uphill, so that should be better, right?  At least the timing is such that you can chill out and eat pulled pork sandwiches at Hog Wild while waiting for the sun to go down, then head out for Limey.

By "doing" do you mean flat out racing or laid back enjoying?  I might be up for either...there's nothing definite on my calendar in lat June.  But I might shrivel up and die in that sort of heat.

I was thinking of a mid April run at the 250 again. How much snow is still in Williams/Flag?

Late June - tough date!  Most of the terrain between Sedona and the climb out of the Verde valley (about 1/2 the route?) is as warm or warmer than the lower areas of the Koko - and we all know what a tough nut that can be in early June.  It's an awesome shoulder season route but I think I'll be heading high when the summer heat is on.

That should be okay in April. I can let you know as the date approaches.

I am just going to have to say that May is most likely your best bet on this one, with all of the snow this year.

I could see doing the 250 again, that was a great 4 days of riding in October, the 300 is in April I'll have to see how that goes first.

North side of Williams Mtn might take a while to melt out.  The rest should be good by late April I would think.

You can always skip Williams.

DH -- yeah, higher places will be calling in June.  But if there's a cool spell like last year, it was a great trip, and the super long days are nice.

I am thinking about sometime in early June for a fun run at this, long days on the bike with plenty of sleep. Anyone interested?

One possible time period: June 8-12.

I think I am going to do the 250 at "race pace" then maybe tour up to the Grand Canyon and back. Same dates, just an ITT.  headbang

Would that be of interest to you?

coolio Chad.  You gunning for Harris' "soft" record of 2:03:46?  I'm going to start the 250 at highnoon on June 22.  It will likely be hot in Sedona, but the sun should be setting and a nearly full moon rising about the time I get to the bottom of the Old Munds Wagon Trail.... I only have a 48hrs to work with...

Sort of, I'd like to think I was that fast. We'll see how in shape I am. I have ridden the route twice,so I know what to expect. It seems like 2:03 is not as "soft" as it sounds.

I too think you could crush it Chad!  But it IS Harris that said it is "soft".  I think that I would have to have some luck and one of the best rides of my life to do it in 2 days (48 hours)...

You can do it Chad!  Just avoid mechanicals and keep yer eye on the ball.  I'll be rooting for you!

I am getting stoked to do an ITT Coconino 250 attempt starting at noon on June 22.  Looks like it could be hot but I thing it can be mitigated.... and with luck I will finish... I will set up my "homemade" tracker, but is anyone going to be at their computer to watch with all the great rides that are happening this month?! Oh wait, is it against the rules to watch a different race while racing?   icon_biggrin

Bikepacking season indeed, even in the heat of AZ!

Chad Brown starts today on the Coconino Loop, and the tracker is live once again:

He's looking at a ~noon start, and from the sound of it traveling quite light.  Hope he carries a lot of water...

GO CHAD!!!!   icon_salut
