Matt, your fall races are turning into a big mess. A fatty would work well in these conditions I'm busy looking at ways to explore the lesser known areas of Utah south of Canyonlands NP. Places the Subie can't go but the bike can. |

Cool! I don't blame you. You still in Moab area? Heard about the flood warning out there, stay High! This race would be totally rad if it snowed a lot, I would seriously consider riding a fat bike for it!

Snows spitting again.
Schnebly road could well be a sloppy mess for a couple of days the way things are looking.
I know I don't want any thing to do with Anderson Mesa mud. But how sticky are the main trails in Sedona?
I believe the Sedona stuff rides pretty well even wet. It's all sand based. Waiting a day or a Sedona start could make a lot of sense. Seems like 2" at Mormon Lake isn't going to melt and dry by tomorrow midday. |

Just arrived in Flagstaff. I don't see it drying out before tomorrow. It would be nice to know what the consensus is. Start Saturday or star from Sedona. I'm leaning toward starting Saturday.
Maybe those that are interested could meet at the place Saturday 7:00 am

Phat bikes work very well as trail sweepers for goatheads. Just make sure they are ahead of you... Is fatbike your answer to everything?

I'm driving off from Albuquerque in about three hours [expecting very poor fuel mileage into a 30-knot headwind]. I planned to be at The Place Fri morning for breakfast and to get my Spot from someone [?]. If nobody shows with my Spot, then guess I'll ride Spotless. From The Place, was going to drive off and start in Sedona [still Friday, but mid-morning], or ADOT/I-17, if it's not too muddy. If I started in Sedona, would probably bike up the road to Schnebly, to check out the view for my first time, then down the trail, back into town, then stop in Cottonwood Fri evening. If anyone wants to join us at Dead Horse Ranch SP Fri evening, instead of potential snow camping atop Mingus, we'll be in tent camping slot #123.
Or Plan-C, as a last resort: Oak Creek Brewery to ponder the situation over a pint... or two...

Barry - Brad Mattingly will have your SPOT at The Place tomorrow morning. You could also coordinate with him this evening if you want to try to get it early. Let me know and I can give you his contact info.
Seems like showing up to 'the Place' as planned, then coordinating with whoever is there for delaying or starting in Sedona could make sense. It sounds like everyone will be kinda doing their own thing, regardless. It seems to be one of those years.
One things is for sure: bikes will be ridden and fun will be had. :-)
About every 3 years we seem to get hit with a storm that makes this happen. So it goes.

I may be interested in your option/plan. Beer and warm camping sound very tempting. I could use another day to get my sh__ together. I committed to this last minute and just spent 16 hrs driving down from Tahoe. Blake |

Do you think Anderson mesa will dry out for a Saturday start from Flagstaff? I think I'll start Saturday morning either from Flagstaff or Sedona. |

Just got back from checking on Anderson Mesa and the Mormon Lake/Mtn area.
It is wet. Mormon Lake more so than Anderson Mesa. It will probably not be a good idea to start from Flagstaff tomorrow AM. The AZT through Anderson and Mormon is in death mud mode, and precip is still coming down as of 245 pm. It gets worse the closer you get to the rim.
If we get a nice breezy, sunny day tomorrow, it should be good for a Saturday start. Otherwise, starting in Sedona tomorrow AM could be a decent option.

Alright we're in Flag at the AutoLodge on Milton.
Planning to be at the Place to meet Brad.
I am thinking we'll still start from here for the Flagstone I think the trail to Marshall Lake should be good then bail on the Anderson Mesa beat down.
Then pick up the course on Munds Park rd.

Just got into Flagstaff. I think I'm committed to the Highland Country Inn for the night (reservation) but open to a Friday or Saturday start in Flagstaff or Sedona.

I will be arriving in Flag in about two hours. I have a strong preference for starting tomorrow as I have to be back in Santa Monica Wednesday for a Thursday AM flight to nneapolis.
