Hi Everyone:

The Cordillera Volume 2 is finished and available for purchase.

For those of you who have missed it the Cordillera is an anthology of the best Divide Racing art, literature and poetry out there. It is a book about ultra-racing along the Divide and I'm sure that everyone who visits Bikepacking.net will find it fascinating.

The Cordillera Volume 2 is a professionally bound soft-cover book with work by Jon Billman (Outside Magazine), Paul Howard (Two Wheels on my Wagon / Eat, Sleep, Ride), Dan Koeppell (New York Times), Eddie Clark (Mountain Flyer) and many others. We also have pictures from Aaron Teasdale and original artwork by Trevor Browne in this year's book.

We have a great story and interview of Kurt Refsnider this year which details the incredible discovery he made on Baffin Island of the bikes and gear left by Divide bicycling pioneers Mike and Dan Moe. It's a story that you'll never forget and there's more information about it in the Cordillera than anywhere else.

The Cordillera is a non-profit effort. All proceeds benefit worthy bikepacking causes and last year we raised over $1,000 for the Adventure Cycling Association. This year all proceeds go directly to the college savings plan for Linnaea Blumenthal. Linnaea is the four year old daughter of Dave Blumenthal who died after a crash in the 2010 Tour Divide race. Purchasing a copy of the Cordillera is a great and tangible way for the bike-packing community to show support for a fallen racer's daughter.

If you are making a run down the Divide this year please consider buying a copy and recommending it to your friends/family as well. There's no better way to vicariously race the Divide than through the Cordillera. It would make a terrific gift.

The Cordillera will be available on Amazon.com next month but if you purchase it directly from the printer you'll get it in a few days and twice as much money will be donated to Linnaea's college fund. Here's the link:

https://www.lulu.com/product/paperback/the-cordillera/15659154

We will be having a book release and signing party in Seattle on May 21st at the Blue Star Pub and Cafe. We have the back room reserved, books to sell and several authors will be there to sign copies. It will be a great evening with raffles and prizes (generously donated by the Ride The Divide Movie producers). Kids are welcome. Everyone is welcome. The fun starts around 6:30, here's a link:   http://www.bluestarcafeandpub.com/

One last note is a big thanks to MOOTS Cycles and the Ride the Divide producers. Both of whom donated to this worthy cause.

Thanks

Eric Bruntjen

Oooph, Nice Kurt. I'm sure this'll be worth the price alone. Can't wait to read it.

Eric: Great choice for the cover. That Eddie Clark shot is one of my favorite bikepacking ones out there. Really want to use it on the new GD covers but couldn't. Mainly cause i had a shot for Section 3 already, was getting pressure to not use lightweight-setup/bikepacking/racing shots for all the covers, and couldn't use it for any other section due to the facts that the scene, Erik (the rider) and Moots (his bike/jersey) are all from Sec 3. Heres a looksy at what it would've been:

That is such a great shot!

We were going to use it regardless but I sent a little note to MOOTS cycles first since I thought it might make for a good advertisement. MOOTS immediately got on board and promised to buy $450 worth of books. They are good people over there. A lot of companies would have ignored me but MOOTS was very enthusiastic, they didn't make me jump through any hoops or anything.

Here's a shot of the cover. Jill Homer drew it up which was a huge help to the project:

Thanks to everyone who has bought a copy. Please keep spreading the word with your clubs, blogs, Facebook, etc. I really appreciate that since word of mouth is the only advertising we have.

The book has been getting great reviews so far, I hope you all enjoy it as well.

I finally got around to reading my copy (I helped design the cover but didn't see the text before it printed.) I really enjoyed this one, especially Stephen Gleasner's piece about the daily creep of images and memories from his own Tour Divide experience. His essay really rang true to me — "My greatest tool the first time, the thing that got me to Antelope Wells, was my blissful ignorance ... The thing unfolded one mile at a time. I stared at the queues. I got lost. I was present for every moment. I seldom looked ahead to anything more than the next day."

Also enjoyed the Moe Brother discovery pieces and transcript from Dave Blumenthal. Nice job, Eric, with the compilation and editing.
